(1) mama/sister/aunt made a pile of money, then came back to the village to open a pulperia/soda--worked for them
(2) drugs or tuition or 4 k*ds--what's the diff?
(3) fooling fat, drunken, frequently unkempt gringos in the comfort of a by-the-hour motel into thinking they're Errol Flynn redux
(4) what, are you crazy with this cockamamie question?

serious sociological question, smart-*ss approach. Now, pass that bottle of Tullamore Dew, would you? Thanks

Tried to edit the poll out and couldn't do it. My bad.

I have a problem with "necessity."

Many of us often point out that it isn't a necessity. After we point this out, we usually have a huge debate over how little wages are in CR/Columbia/DR/NIC/Panama and how there isn't many jobs for these honeys so it must be a necessity. NOT! :)

D2864, I will be happy to listen to your reasons for why working is not necessary for these girls as soon as you walk a few miles in their pumps.

Until then, not so much...

It certainly isn't a necessity. The simple fact is that the majority of women in CR (or anywhere, for that matter) ARE NOT putas.

That said, many women don't want to do hard manual labor for 12 hours a day/6 days a week, just to make enough money to continue living with their Ch*ldren in poverty. And if you are a poor uneducated single female with K*ds n CR, your options are pretty much the above or selling your ass. Its a choice, simple as that.

Well, fact is, there are only so many jobs, especially for unedcated and non-english speakers. And if you have more than yourself to support, then your options are limited. Sure, there's always choices, but most of them involve some kind of exchange of favors for money (marriage, mistress, puta, etc..)

The argument usually goes "There are plenty of girls working regular jobs and getting by", and that's true, but say you got 100 jobs, and 150 girls. 100 of them will be the "working regular jobs" girls, but what happens to the other 50? Saying they could "just get a job" doesn't really understand the conditions.

What's more, there is nowhere they can make $100 for an hours (or less) work, so they can go home and take care of their family.

Necessity perhaps not, but certainly it makes sense for many

The hang-up here seems to be the use of the word 'necessity.' That implies that there are NO choices, which obviously isn't true. What IS true is that their choice of 'profession' is generally the best choice for them, in their eyes at least. It's true they could go and cut sugar cane or beg or whatever even if they don't have the education to work as a fast food cashier (I believe they require the equivalent of a HS diploma, which most of the working girls don't have). But it boils down to lesser of evils, basically. I would ask my fellow mongers if THEY haven't ever done a job they disliked because the alternatives were worse? I certainly have. Was that job totally necessary? No, I could have worked for less, or lived on the streets, I suppose. Was my choice economic? Definitely. I put the working girls in the same category. Prostitution isn't the ONLY thing they could do to survive, but the alternatives seem worse to them. Who are we, who gladly partake of their services, to criticize their choices?

Simple absolute easy fact is that there are unattractive women who can't be putas and they make it through life without being a puta so the same can be done by the pretty women. It is an option for the pretty women and not anywhere near all of them take that option but I can see where the tunnel vision, the narrow SL and HDR view of CR would make one think, oh God is it so necessary to be a puta, all the women in CR pass through here.

Just like TP said on the "around the world" forum when someone implied that all women in Colombia were putas, he basically said, go to the Mall old man and you'll see they aren't lining up to Phuck you. And, I will add.... Approach a young hottie in the Mall and she will run for the hills so if you want to live the myth stay put in the Mansion where they make you feel like all the women in Colombia are putas.

D2864, my point was that we have no idea what the circumstances are for these women. You have never been in their situation and have no frame of reference. Further, I see no reason to judge them when we are so busy taking advantage of their situation.

Sometimes, there is no other choice. Often times, they not only have to feed themselves, but their baby(s) and even a few family members (sister and mom, etc). And making 750¢/hour working in a supermarket or a factory just ain't gonna cut it when the price of food is equal or higher that of the US where the wages are 20x those of CR. It's about economics, plain and simple. It's not about being lazy and not wanting to work in a factory. You're kidding yourself if you think that most of these women wouldn't drop the DR and go work in a factory for similar money in a second. I said most, I didn't say all. I'm sure there are some lazy ones who don't want to do real work, no matter what the pay is. And just like you preach about not calling all women putas, don't call all putas lazy.

Like Pac55 said, you shouldn't talk about people's situations until you've walked in their shoes. It's easy for us who have a college education, and good jobs, to talk like we know what their lives are like.

True Pac55, you are saying that I have no idea what sent them to the HDR and I'm saying that whatever sent them there wasn't a necessity, it was choice.

Heck, I think (no proof) a lot go there after finding out that a friend goes there so they go with the friend just see what it is all about. Once there, they listen to all the gringos yap, their friend introduces them to a nice client, the new girl goes with the nice client, loves the money, and slowly, the new girl who never expected to be a puta, starts to feel comfortable in the HDR so one client leads to another and another and another.

Only in the perfect politically correct world can we say that we do not judge women who run about the HDR/SL/KL/ZB. To say that you don't judge them would mean that you see the female lawyer in CR, female realtor, female office manager in the same light as a puta. I don't see how any reasonable person could judge putas in a more positive light than these other females that I've noted.

I know Pac55, I'm taking the meaning of "judgment" to the Nth degree, but just wanted to point out that we judge them, but we don't hold their profession against them, like you basically said, "how could we?"

So what do I do with the experience that I have with women who live in the same situation as the putas, but won't be a puta under any circumstances? Because of this experience, I think that it isn't absolutely necessary to be a puta. Life can be difficult without taking that step, I agree, but many don't take that step.

Also, I never called them lazy. I don't think they are lazy and I don't think the work is easy either. They get ready for work like anyone else so I don't see them as lazy. I respect them for the actress that they are, because it seems on some level they have to hate us Johns, but have to laugh at our stupid comments and pretend as though they are enjoying themselves around us. Of course, some of them love their work and all that goes with it. I don't know how many really love the work - really no idea at all.

Why judge females at all? If I choose to judge a female as "less than", does truly make her what I have judged?

Is a "professional woman" who does not take money for sex, but has sex with multiple partners for dinners, career advancement, or whatever reason, better than a lady of the evening? When does exchanging sex for goods, and services, or just because they like it, put a "professional woman" into the category of being a "puta".

Derogatory labels are usually used by me when I need to feel better about myself.

There but for the grace of God go I.........

Health & happiness to all....

I make a HUGE distinction between acknowledging that someone made a choice in work and making any kind of moral judgement about them. These girls made a choice to engage in this occupation based on the circumstances of their enviornment and their needs and desires. Thats it. I place no moral value on their decision at all. I'm just not in a position to.

The problem is we come from a culture that puts prostitutes at the bottom of any moral social ladder, so when we associate with these girls many guys either consider them low life whores, or idealize them as some sort of Virgin Mary (well maybe not Virgin) who is struggling to help her Ch*ldren.

The simplest solution (for me anyway) was to just get rid of that old world puritan thinking of prostitution as evil and dirty and just acknowledge that it is a job choice. A choice with certain consequences, but a choice nontheless.
