every board has its own personality. The vast majority of boards have at least some level of flaming. Personally, comparing the flaming here to a few other monger boards I frequent, this place is relatively tame.
My biggest problem with flame wars isn't that they exist (I can just ignore them if I want), it is that it sometimes discourages folks from posting and pushes away members. Some boards simply have a BAD vibe about them, almost as if there is an air of negativity that surrounds the forum.
I don't think that is the case with CRT. FOR ME, CRT is a nice community with minimal flaming that tends to encourage me to post more. Are there posters whose make posts/trip reports that I find rather annoying? Of course! Thankfully it is a very limited number of posters and I simply chose to not read their reports/posts.
There are two types of monger boards that I go to. Some, I just milk for information. Others I try to actively participate in the discussion and become a contributing member of the board. I like posting to CRT and like the community of guys on this board (even those who make posts that annoy me). There was one board that I started posting to that has some REALLY good info. The problem was that the board kept getting consumed with flame wars and pointless bragging that it became a big turn off. Now , I just get the info I need from that board and leave.
