IMHO:

It seems that this morning, and lately in general, there have been several flame wars going on.

The responses from many seem to blame the person that has responded to their post. Just as it takes two to Tango, it takes at least two to flame.

A vast majority of the posts on CRT are judgment, and not data (facts that would stand up in court). This is a wonderful, and a fantastic part of CRT. At times some posts, even if only judgment, makes me look at my point of view.

If I post something that is judgment, it can never be data no matter how many words I write to try and make it data while defending my judgements. When someone replies to my post, in a manner that I perceive as negative, why do I even need to respond? Will it make my judgment data if I do, NO!!!? Most importantly, as the flames are fanned higher, will the other person(s) finally believe that my judgment is right and change their judgment, NO!!!? As a man, why it is so important my judgements be seen as right to others, especially men? I am not less of a man because all men did not agree with my judgments. Society has taught us a false lesson about manhood, and needing to have our judgemnts right.

Sorry for the early morning rant. I just wanted to point out that those who blame others for flaming, if you had chosen not to respond, there would have been no flame. When I choose to respond, in essence, I am fanning the flames. It often turns what was a match stick flame into a forest fire. What is the point when in the end neither pesons judgment can ever be data?

As usual I have my asbestos shorts on this morning, so flame away at me.

Health & happiness to all...

Steve - Santas Bro

as usual, you bring some sensibility to the threads and I couldn't agee with you more...

Opinions are just that but many responders seem to get confused on what's opinion and what is fact

oh well>>>>>>>>>>

Not to start a flame war or anything, but... ;)

It doesn't take two to flame, just one... it does take two to war though.

I have noticed an increase in negativity and fewer threads with good info as a gradual trend over the past year or so.
Its different when its a light hearted chapping of a friend and its obvious when that is what it its. But attacks by grumpy people who are home in the states and not currently getting laid= bad mojo.
Well , I am going to CR on MOnday for ten days and plan to do a full and detailed trip report when I return. good vibes to all.

Santas

For some reason some must always be right as you stated at the start of this thread.

Some also just like to disagree.

To me it is interesting in reading a reply; the difference between a flame and a discussion seems to be the need to be right at all costs versus the desire to disagree.

I too have noticed more need to be right rather than disagree over the last year.

I like to see different opinions I get bored with proving who is right or wrong.

As always just my opinion. 8)

Just a word of compliment to the thread starter. JMO of course , but you make a great case for the utter futility of arguing with strangers on the internet. Quite a widespread phenom it is, and so widespread on about any topic imagineable. "Tranquillo" is the word. Something very hard for me as an American to grasp but the locals in Costa Rica that instructed me to do so were on to something. This board by the way is much better than most. Several mongering sites have come and gone while this one remains, largely due to intelligent discussion and a sense of humor.

Santas bro whenever i see guys trading insults i just ignore that thread untill some one else chimes in.I don't have the time or energy to argue over trivial details and opinions. If you have to have the last word all the time you have a maturity issue that i don't want to deal with!(it's impossible to be the only one with the correct take every time!)SB thanks for bringing sensibiliy to the board.Mis dos centavos.

Its the unavoidable. The board is growing at an outrageous rate, and simply put you cant avoid the morons of the world forever.

Every board has arrogant guys who go on about nothing, flame about every establishment, and argue over nothing. Tis the reality of things.

Locking horns over different opinion is fine by my book as long as people know how to handle it , to treat it as healthy discussions and to know when to move the Phuck on.

True. Every village has it's own and CRT is no exception .It definitely has it's few . Though, I think most member who frequent here enough would know how to cope with them , have some fun with their typical antics , or, simply ignore them.

It's great to have members such as SB to keep the balance. Tman posted a simiar thread last year or year before which was quite good as well . Overall I would still say the mix at CRT is not bad.

I have seen worse at other boards. Way worse.

The best solution is to not reply to the A -- hole that flames you.
