I very much appreciate the 35 mm shots I still have of a wonderful character having alot of fun on Avenida Central dressed in the suit of a costumed character that smiled at the little ones.

As I studied his costume I finally saw the uniform of a super hero, and we young ones smiled again, except bigger  and whispered with a respectful Thank You Sir!

With all the people that ask for money in CR, I just tune them out and don't give to any. Because you get it all day, everyday. BUT, I promise that if I ever encounter a vet that I can give a hand to, I will definitely offer what I can... That ain't charity, that's payback!

I amgrass

growing

on the sidewalks

of city streets...

And, today

I wear cardboard shoulder boards

as a signature epaulettes salute to a life lived

YO Elroy....or who ever you are:

"I sat there on this early Sunday morn eating a greasy breakfast in McDonalds. and sipped on tea."

What is your problem? The above is not an accurate paste of what I wrote. You apparently changed it to fit your agenda. Let me guess....you are anti military and have no clue as to the bond between American veterans of war. As for the "tea", the cup "he was drinking from" had a lemon in it and was of a darker color.....maybe he liked it with coke. Get real.

I like to share poignant situations with the members here. For the most part, some CRT members were veterans and many here have had fathers, mothers or sisters that have served in the military.

I feel sorry for you in that you apparently have such a disparaging view of the men and women that serve our country.

Circus,
I miss my brothers / sisters that did not return.

I have done a very poor job of communicating, sir and perhaps you may have received a very bad reception of what I meant to say by my own pen (keyboard) for which I take full responsibility.

With complete respect for you, yours, and to all others that I may have offended, please accept my sincere apology for my miscommunication.

With due respect, I am in support of your theme. My comments were of a literary nature more targeted toward the writing and editing of your effort.

This truly is a “classic” post/thread… Thank you Circus.

Lets all hope that we learned something in the 60’s and early 70’s and that history does not repeat itself in how we treat our returning vets.

YO Elroy:
I appreciate your clarification. No problema. I just have some strong feelings about things when it comes to vets of all wars. Those little deamons pop out some time. But please make sure when you quote someone that it is accurate. Then it is not taken as a slight. Hell, all of here have sawed some nerves at one time or another.

Florida, I was somewhat surprised by your post. You've been around for quite some time and certainly know that newer members surf in yesteryear posts and bring them back quite a bit. Maybe that wasn't what bothered you. My original post was not political, your post was. What ever you were trying to vent it's your business and I respect your view. BTW, you are certainly not innocent when it comes to rehashing old posts or keeping ones going on almost forever.

But different attitudes, experiences and styles keep this forum from becoming dull.

I often wonder about that look, is it easier to spot in CR because the large proportion of expats being Vets? Here I want to help but don't want to offend.

I befriended a 70 something guy years ago, I use to drive him to the px at the Coast Guard so he and I could get our cheap smokes. He was retired Navy. Good guy and I considered him my friend. A few years ago he started getting sicker emphysema and I would take him to the VA or in emergencies the local hospital. He started trying to give me things and acting weird. I finally relented and took a old time Boeing 707 lighter. He then disappeared one day. His daughter called me a few months later and said I meant a lot to him and he didn't want me to see him die so he left and checked into hospice without warning. That lighter is one of my favorite things now.
