I said LaDiablo's idea of humiliating overweight people was not very compassionate while you said it was. Now I know why you think that. Because you lost weight you lost the ability to understand and feel compassion for others who, for various reasons, can not duplicate your success.
Not so much...
I don't agree that public humiliation is appropriate any more than I think publicly condoning obesity and making allowances for it are appropriate.
In a nutshell, yes, there are medical conditions that make losing weight difficult for a very small percentage of people. There are also psychological reasons that keep people from successfully losing weight. With effort, these can be overcome. Support from others is one key to success along with persistence, a true desire to live life differently and a positive attitude.
Providing people with excuses to remain obese does them no favors, in my opinion. To me, true compassion for a person means caring enough to tell them the truth and offer support to be successful in changing, not telling them everything is great while you are really thinking that they are killing themselves with a fork.
As I said in the beginning, I am not magic. If I can do it so can a lot of other people. Think of how much better they would feel about themselves if they suddenly had control of their body mass and had the success of losing the weight for their self-image, not to mention that the girls do see you differently when height and weight are proportional.
ID, I have never met you but I always enjoy your posts, even when you get a little testy. I don't know what your body mass index is but if you need to drop some weight and you are willing to accept that it is possible, I am here for you with all the support I can bring. There is no need to drop the weight as quickly and with as big a change in eating habits as I made. People don't get big overnight and it takes time to retrain the body. Small changes in diet consistently applied and moderate exercise is all it takes for
most people.
