I love reading the posts here. I travel about 1/2 the year mostly Marlin fishing somewhere. Being single for a few years now and going through the young local American chick thing for the last year, I decided to head for to CR and check out the ladies and fishing.

Well pulled my back the day I was leaving. I mean really pulled it! So I did make the Del Rey to have a drink and look around. Only one girl in the place caught my eye over 2 hours. It's the smile that gets me. Anyway I was too sick to do anything, eating pain pills.

I'm better! So thinking about a trip down, may stay at the Del Rey (top floor) for 2 to 3 weeks. If I don't find a steady girl I like I'll go walking. I actually love Jan Jose and find it a great place to go walking and people watch.

Probably sounds like a stupid question but if I find one I like will she make enough in one night and disappear or maybe return each evening. Maybe do a little gfe thing, etc.

Other question is I kind of liked the location of the Del Rey, but stayed at the Don Carlos last trip, nice little place. Any opions.

Forgot to mention on the plane ride home the guy next to me and I got to talking. From San Diego. Made monthly trips down. Had a picture of his girl friend in his wallet. Met her in church. Had met all the relatives.

She was educated but working on her Masters.

They were trying to figure out how he could start a business down there and move. We had a great conversation on way to Houston, he traveled through Houston to San Diego to save on air fare. Seemed like a very nice normal guy.

Was telling my son about it a few days later. He said "Boy sounds to good to be true!", Bingo it hit me!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't think you would be able to find a GFE relationship in the Del Ray. Also, to really have one, you need to be able to speak spanish. You should probably just go and enjoy, like a smorgasborg, for your first few trips.

I wasn't aware anything like that existed. I can attest to the fact that it doesn't for me.

As for the hotel....yes, the DON CARLOS is a very nice hotel, but is not, as we say, "chica friendly." I suggest the HOTEL CASTILLO which is across the street from the DON CARLOS and beside the HEMINGWAY.

Yes they exist. And create just as many problems as the professionals in CR do. If fact the end game sounds the same.


Get a yacht (chick magnet) and you will have a large flock to pick from. Problem is you eventually fall for one and the emotional up's and down's start in as well as they are very expensive. Very very high maintenance. Click on "girls like fishing too" on my web page boraborabob.com.

Princessofthelagoon.com cost me about 100 grand last year, and now she is gone.

Why I'm thinking about CR, have fun and if by chance you get hooked at least it will be cheaper than American "chicks".

So, the reality is, that pay-for-play with young chicks does exist in the U.S........just costs hundreds of thousands of dollars more.

You no doubt had some interesting experiences. You'll find the Costa Rica scene much cheaper.......IF you keep it in its proper perspective.

About the smile thing...

One thing i've noticed is that chicas in CR don't smile a lot.. they usually have this scowl on their face all the time.. it is a real turn off.

When I drive down the street, I see girls waiting for the bus, scowl on face.. it's almost like a national pasttime.

In the DR, I see the same (but somewhat relaxed) look on their faces, and I don't think they're attractive, then I see the same girl 10 minutes later talking to a guy, and she's got a smile on her face, and she's a completely different girl and you think "Damn, i should have got her when I had the chance".

I think the chicas would get a lot more business if they practiced smiling when they weren't actively engaged with a client.

Bob, if you haven't already left you ought to think about staying at the sportsmans lodge if they have rooms available.

Zebra is rght. Do not stay at Don Carlos if you want to bring a GFE to your room. Castillo, Amistad, or Sportsman's are friendlier venues for that. Hemingway is sort of mediocre in my opinion.

PS. The gift shop in Don Carlos has decent CR cigars at a reasonable price.

He may not be able to find a "GFE relationship" but he can certainly find many sweet young parttimers who are willing to be his best pretend girl for a few hours. Not difficult at all and most speak enough English to get you buy.


I have spoken to many of the girls about this (the high-end models for the most part). They tell me the reason they don't alawys walk around smiling is mostly our fault. It seems that many mongers like to call the real hotties over to start some kine of convo/negotiation and as soon s the discussion begins, the monger seems to think he has the right to fondle all the merchandise. Soon, she discovers that the dewd has no interest in making a deal, he simply wanted to grope her and talk nasty for the cheap thrills. For some reason, this type behavior is not welcomed on their end and it leands to a less than sparkling attitude.

An Aside: I was sitting with Expat Tomas one night in the Del Rey when one of my favoritas, (Natalia, since returned to Medellin) walked in. Natalia is a blonde, all natural with a big posterior and a distinctive duck-walk, great mug. She always walked the Del Rey with her "War Face" on. Tomas had no idea that Natalia and I were old friends. As soon as he saw her, Tomas said, "Here comes the biggest bitch in the Del Rey. She never smiles at anybody." Just then, Natalia spotted me and made a beeline, clip-clopping in ther 4" pumps and grinning like she just found a long lost relative. She grabbed me in a bear-hug and was beaming. "Damn" was about all Tomas could muster.

They are kinda like M&Ms: You have to break through the hard candy coating to get to the creamy middle!

I have to agree that looking for a real girlfreind at the Del Rey is not the best idea. Church is.

Staying at the Del Rey and thinking any kind of nice girl is going to come back there with you is going to create problems. Alot of problems. Stay at the suggested places and visit the Del Rey. Only a few blocks. That way you can have both. And peace when you want it. And the Del Rey when you want it. My two cents.

Top Floor of Presidente is nice. Hotel M is nice but 10min from the Rey. The Sportsmen has a top floor that is nice. 4 blocks from the Rey. Even the holiday inn and sleep inn give you the ability to bring in anything you want. But they charge a tica fee. But you can entertain guest with no problems.

I am an old fart who is very insecure, and shy, could you all please help me also.

The wheels are up in less than seven hours and I'm feeling very insecure. If you could all just give me your GFE names, and numbers, I may be able to overcome my insecurities.
