Its not just the Bible-thumping enthusiasts trying to eliminate prostitution.
Like I posted before you need to focus the concentration on liberal Gringas that are trying to promote around the world. The controling gringas of faith based organizations as well as cumbia hippie groups are really the problem. This will not go away that simple because Costa Rica is in their sights!

The liberal gringas have no political power in the United States today.
Nada. No power. They can talk, but they do not rule. That could
change, of course with a new election. But right now, the religious
right controls United States public policy, and the liberal gringas
are totally, 100%, on the outs of power. The religious right hates
the liberal gringas as much, or more, than they hate us mongers
The abortion issue separates them, and for both groups, abortion
is much more of an issue than prostitution..

Back to the original topic for un momento  an update...
Quote:
Anti-prostitution program will be for two years and involve 100 persons
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The project that the Fundación Rahab will under take on the central Pacific coast will be for two years, During that time, the organization plans to help 100 persons, some 75 of them minors.

This is the anti-prostitution project that is being bankrolled through the U.S. Embassy and the International Organization for Migration. The project is based on the belief that prostitution in Costa Rica is linked with sometimes forcible trafficking in persons.

Meanwhile, the Rahab foundation says it will graduate a group of 25 women today in the San José area. The women have been victims of commercial sex exploitation and are being reinserted into society, the organization said.
The program has a Christian emphasis, and the women are trained in computing, quilt making and crafts so they can make a living after leaving the foundation shelter. Rahab has been doing this for nine years. The name is that of a female biblical figure who left prostitution and became the ancestor of King David of Israel and Jesus Christ.

The central Pacific effort will be in the cantons of Puntarenas, Garabito, Aguirre, Parrita and Esparza, the organization said. The organization said this region had been picked because of the tourism business that exists there and because the area is a hot spot for internal human trafficking.

In addition to providing shelter to ex-prostitutes, the organization also will be trying to raise the awareness of the community to combat trafficking in persons, it said.

The problem is that the ladies can take their new skills making quilts and probably earn $200 or $300 a month, assuming there is a big demand for quilts in Costa Rica. However, the pretty ones can make that much in one night by renting their bodies. "How do you keep them down on the farm, after they've seen Paree". It still comes down to whether the lady wants to quit or not.

This latest update sounds more reasonable. It sounds like they are truly looking for girls (especially minors) who really want and need help. If this is true, and not the usual U.S. bullshit, then I am all for it. I have one problem with what's written " The project is based on the belief that prostitution in Costa Rica is linked with sometimes forcible TRAFFICKING in persons". When I think of trafficking,I think of "across boundries". If the Immigration depts.of CR and the U.S. are sponsering this program, won't they,by law,be deporting these girls that need help because they will be here illegally. It doesn't seem logical that the Government of CR would want to spend money to re-educate girls from Nicaragua,Panama and Colombia who are here illegally anyways.

Bob, they are just following the example of the good o' US of A. We have been spending money for years to re-educate illegals in this country. Not to mention the Welfare, aid and voting rights illegals (from any country) enjoy today.
Logic has nothing to do with it!

My guess is that the people working at the grassroots level on this project are well intentioned and doing good.

But...

I find it interesting that a project to clean up prostitution in the Central Pacific is being sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and that the ambassador, Mark Langdale, is currently (while serving as ambassador) president of Posadas USA, Inc.--on leave, of course.

Posadas is the largest hotel management company in Latin America with 10,500 hotel rooms in operation in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil and the United States. They don't have any interests in Costa Rica--yet.

Also, The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica's website links to the 2006 Trafficking in Persons Report. They make assessments of 141 countries--but not the U.S.A.

Not too many years ago, I was a regular customer at an Asian MP directly across the street from State Department Headquarters in Foggy Bottom. Don't know for a fact, but I suspect the girls working there seldom got an opportunity to leave. Clean up your own home first.

Why are they focusing on the tourist areas? Prostitution is a part of
the culture and takes place among locals at every level of society and
in every city and village.

This is the most blatant and untruthful use of the "trafficking" excuse
that I have seen. Any lie will do, no matter how preposterous, in
justifying the crackdown on consensual agreements between
free adults. As many have said, trafficking is a probem in the United
States, not in Costa Rica.

Does such a Foundation pursue no other strategies than to
help a handful of women in their drive to stamp out prostitution?
They know as well as we do that helping a few ladies to quit does
nothing to address the culture of prostitution in Costa Rica.
Inevitably they will be lobbying at every level of government and
among community groups to accomplish their objective: drive
prostitution underground into dangerous and unsavory conditions
so that no one can justify it any more.

The only difference between a Bible-thumping critic of sexuality and
the rest of us is that the Bible-thumper feels tremendous guilt when
he sees the prostitute.

Please.......Put it to rest. Damn, you guys worry too much about shit that will not effect your lives hardly at all. I'm beginning to think that some of you will be missing a lot of enjoyable strokes and sucks while you are nervously listening for black helicoptors coming over the horizon. Policies change, governments change and do weird things, people get wasted and killed, the world is in chaos (like for the last 5,000 years) going through radical and dangerous changes, global warming is going to raise the oceans and cover N.Y. city in ten years....yeah right AL G., Rep. Foley is hiding under a bed, Muslims are going berserk, spinich will kill you, hurricanes will ravage the U.S.....whoops, thatls an outdated forcast from 60 days ago, and.....the world is ending manana, as states a strango on the news today.

One fact and perhaps the only viable prediction: Prostitution throughout this world will florish for a very long time. Love it or leave it.
Now, I would carry on with this expert forcast but it's time for Shitass, my cat, and me to lay our Tarot cards on the floor and see just what in the hell we are doing manana.

Circus and Shitass... See ya.

Upon reading the title to this posting I thought it would be about shutting down the hookers in Hollywood.

Found this a valuable thread, not least of which the civility displayed on such a volatile subject (I'm not of course privy to the PM's and emails that doubtless flew back and forth). Everything in Jaco is status quo ante. And remember--1/22/09.

Guys, Prostitution is legal in the US. I have been to a whorehouse owned and operated by the IRS in Nevada. About 20 years ago. I think Nevada is in the US.

I agree about our own government staying out of others bussiness. But it is stupid to get others to stop what our own IRS does.

Addendum: Absent from this thread, and utterly ignored by the Christers and hyper-moralists is the presence and role of Jesus Christ's staunchest friend, some say lover, others assert his wife who was "in the life" 'til the 7 devils were chased out, that paragon of empowered womanhood--Mary Magdalene. If Jesus had no problem with her, how can anyone who speaks in His name have a problem with any of her modern unforced sisters?

Everything I've mentioned above about the Bride of Christ can be found in the Wikipedia.com article on her.
