Friends,
I am a first timer to Costarica. Planning to be there on June 12th.
One thing that I am not sure though is Does T-Mobile work in Costarica?

I must have a phone number without letting people back home know that I am in Costarica.

So what do you expert suggest?

Regards
Jvcking

Not going to happen. Sure, you can subscribe to international service from t-mobile, but when you're here the phone will ring weird. People in the know will know you're not in the country.

OK Well thanks for the information.
I am disappointed though with this news.

What are my other options.
Can I buy a calling card in costarica and be able to call usa without disclossing that I am in CTR?

There must be some solution that you experts have thout about.

Common experts speak up and help your newbee friend.

If you have a laptop, I recommend MagicJack.

http://www.magicjack.com/

You get your own phone number just like if you were calling from home.

I second this.

I just got my MagicJack a couple weeks ago, because of the info on this board. It works perfect so far. We'll see how it works tomorrow in CR, but I don't know why it wouldn't. As long as you have an internet connection, just plug it in and dial the number!

Tmobile will not give you cover for work sometimes the caller can get a spanish message. Skyoe or magic or vonage are good cheaper alternatives that work well and are also good for just calling back to the US for 2 cents a minute,

All,
Thank you all for answering my question. I really appreciate your time. I just ordered the MagicJack. Hope it will work in CR.
I am staying at Sportsman's Lodge. So people who have used magicjack there please let me know how well it worked over there.

I used it from the Castillo hotel without any problems. Made and received calls from the USA, just like I was at home.
