I have not seen the Hotel Morazan discount coupon published in the Tico Times for a couple of weeks. Does anyone know what's up with that? I can find very little info on Morazan room descriptions or prices anywhere on the internet, including the hotel website. Please help!

Are you sure? When I stayed there in Dec. 2007 the resturant was full of drunk ticos and ticas at 8 am and all tables were full of dirty ashtrays and empty Imperials

Don't anybody believe that. Badabing is no longer welcomed in CR. A contract was put out on his life and he fled to Brazil. Now, if anybody is even heard asking for the Soprano discount, they may find themselves swimming with the fishes (and by that I don't mean a free trip to Manuel Antonio).

For those more recent arrivals, who don't know what we are talking about, don't worry. This is all an inside joke about a notorious individual who is probably best forgotten.

Re: the current state of affairs at the Morazon, it was only a matter of time before their rates had to start going up. All their competitors are charging more and operating costs in CR are going up as well. Personally, whether a breakfast is included or not, it was never anything that great to begin with and I always went out for breakfast whenever I stayed there. I'd be much more curious to know what their current chica fee policy was as that was always something that seemed to be pretty inconsistent.

Thanks for all the info received so far, but it seems more questions have come up than have been resolved. Perhaps this forum's Admin could make a discrete inquiry of "Jose," if he is still the manager, regarding these open questions:

1) Current discounted rates (including suites)
2) How to obtain them
3) Breakfast included
4) Current chica policy

Perhaps hotel managment might even be convinced it might be in their best interests to join the CRT discount program.

I stayed there one night a couple of years ago after my "gang" from South Florida returned to the States. We all had been staying in DR, but I stayed one additional night at the Morazan. The Morazan bar was hopping that night! I met a couple of very interesting chicas who had just finished shift at the Presidente. Darn, I couldn't convince "Beki," late of SL, to spend the rest of the night in my room. She had to return home to relieve "mama" who was watching the "bebes" (3 of them). We have exchanged several e-mails since then, and I am looking forward to seeing her again!

To sum this up, I liked the place, in spite of no hot water and an inoperative elevator, and would like to stay there again during my July week in SJ. I really would like to know what I might be getting into, though. Yeah, I know I could call the hotel myself and ask, but would tend to trust more the info that some CR "insider," like CRT Admin, might learn.

Thanks for your interest and replies......

Just "Some Guy"

I've been staying at the Mo for 2 years, and it's always been $45 including all taxes, for a standard room. Just got back from there two days ago.

No chica fee, but there is a $20 chicaS fee for "me and my friend for you". Not sure how much they charge if you bring back three.

Went without hot water only on one trip, but not lately.

The elevator always has worked, except the night last year, when power went off in the whole city for 3 hours. And I WAS IN the elevator when it happened. Took about 15 minutes to pry the door open.

I always call them for reservations, 506 8222-4622. They always handle credit cards without problems. A cute tica named Angie, who once lived in Miami, and speaks great english, works the desk most days. Ricky is the main bellhop, and takes real good care of you.

I recomend booking early and asking for an "inside room". The other rooms face the street, and get rather loud. If you dont get an inside room, bring ear plugs.

All rooms have safes with keys. Dont lose the key, it'll cost $150.

In that case I would like to recommend the all new "The Man discount program". Just go to any hotel and say to the clerk "El Hombre de CostaRicaTicas es un maricon". You'll get the same rate as everyone else, but the clerk will smile more when he sees you.

Got you!!!

Stayed there earlier this month for $45 total including breakfast. American Breakfast is good, although inconsistent. The black waitress with the lucious tatas would include juice and second coffee, others would charge. The rooms are so-so, with outside rooms noisy, and inside rooms dark and I believe completely windowless. Ricardo continues to be a prck, IMHO. The rest of the staff is cool.

I've always liked the Morazan because of it's locale and price but it sure has been noticeably lacking since Alonzo left. He sure knew how to take care of you...a small propina did wonders!!
Favorite rooms were 409 and 411; inside and quiet.

I recommend 2nd floor as elevator only works 60% of the time. BTW, I believe I am being generous with the 60% estimate
