I'll be at HDR for a few nights, the 17th-20th. I know that each room there has a safe with a key type lock. I've read it recommended to hide the safe key rather than keep it on you. I've also read not to hide the key in the room where the safe is. Where do you all hide your safe key, if not on you or in your room?

Also, has anyone ever had problems with items or cash disappearing from a room safe without their key having been stolen (maybe a crooked room maid or something)? Don't want to be too paranoid, but don't want to be a victim either. Thanks for your help...

Location: Referred to the OIG by Mucho Gusto after mysterious fire at his gay night club.
It has been three years since I stayed at the lovely HDR but I seem to recall that the safes were electronic and no key required.

Voss:

as Spanky stated the safe is electronic no key to worry about. I may add they are very user friendly. And a pretty good size. I've been staying at the Del Rey for over 11 years have never had a problem with anything disappearing out of the room much less the safe. Don't be stupid don't leave your wallet or camera laying on the bed. Don't let paranoia spoil your trip.

One comment though. Anything you leave in the bathroom will be treated as community property by any young lady who comes to your room. That includes items like a toothbrush.

Lee&Spanky: Thanks for the info - I read a post in another thread about hiding the safe keys and such, so I wasn't sure. Cheers!
