It's been a long time since I logged in here, but I am possibly taking a 5 day vacation to SJO in May. I've been to CR about two dozen times, but haven't been for about five years now. Since then I've beeen hobying in Colombia, Thailand, and also some places I go for business.

Anyway, I stayed at the Morazan a few times, and also found that Ricardo guy pretty annoying. It's funny that the rest of the staff has turned over (e.g., there used to be a guy named Alonso who was pretty cool), but Ricardo's still there. I also once had a problem where, upon an evening arrival, they screwed up my reservation and didn't have a room for me. It's a decent facility with a great location at a good price, but five years ago I figured out that it wasn't worth the hassle. Sounds like things haven't changed.

I think I'll poke around and see if I can find a private apartment (something like Apartamentos Escocia), but with wireless internet. Gotta have that.

Beware of the Hotel taxi. Their is a new driver a guy who used to hang out near the Costa Rica Grand who is driving the Hotel van now and he is full of scams. As always get your price in advance. He took advantage of a newbie who went to the Hotel Dentist just past Sabana. When he got there he offered to pay and the driver said no I will collect when we get back to the Hotel. When they got back to the Hotel he told the guy $ 50.00. He said it was because he waited but the guy never told him to wait. Use the street taxis and stay away from this guy. The smaller fellow taxi driver Jose is a good guy it is the new man who you need to watch. Also remember no business with Ricardo make your own arrangements for everything . Do not take so much as a potato chip from him.

La Muerte - If you're looking for an apt., you might try Casa Conde. With CRT discount a regular apt. is $80. Wireless internet when I was there was only available in lobby/restaurant. It's 15 minutes from the action without much in the neighborhood and charges a small joiner fee for your date. On the plus side, it's excellent value for the money, quiet and comfortable.

New phone system in CR, you must add a "2" in front of land lines and an "8" in front of cell numbers.

Try (506) 2222-4622 for the Morazan

My take on the Morozan. It's a budget hotel for the area. With this expected, you get what you pay for.

I checked in on Friday (Mar 7th). Tiny corner room on the 4th floor. It's ok. I can handle carrying my little weekend bag and laptop, but someone of couse insisted to carry at least one. This guy also had "tip me" printed all over his forehead.

More about the room.

Bathroom:
Strange shower, there is no way to adjust the water while in the shower without getting scortched of frozen. Lucky, that there is no such thing as really hot water here in CR.
The bathroom is also open air (windows). This could explain the ladybug's flying around. If it get's cold outside, wear your socks.

Room service:
What room service? Saturday night I called for a cheeseburger and a coke at 9:30p. At 10:30p, I called and ask, where the heck was my dinner. It was like talking to the wall. After waiting another 45 minutes, I said screw it and headed out to NY bar and had a nice greasy ham and cheeze (it was good) with dry fries (fries not so good).

Bed:
Pretty good. Nice boncy boncy spring action.

Elevator:
Guess what, the elevator is out again. I asked when it was going to be working, and I got a smile. I will take that as, "time is not relevant in CR my friend".
I have been watching poor old guys suffering going up and down the stairs all day. I chatted with a guy going up with a bad hip and another with two bad knees. Sorry guys. My fat ass was huffin and puffin myself by the 4th floor too. I wonder if the geedy guys downstairs would carry some of the guys up the stairs for the right tip?

Safes:
Tiny safes. You need to carry a key. I hate the Del Rey prices, but their safes are the best. I can toss my laptop in there and all my valuables. No key, you program the combo.

Internet:
I didn't even bother to ask. For me, it's worth getting the free wired internet at the Del Rey. I bring my VOIP device and it's like I am still at home. (I use teleblend, former sunrocket).

TV:
Ok, the TV is kick ass in this place. Tons of english speaking channels for me. Tons of spanish videos for the ticas. When is one of these hotel's gonna start having streaming porn in the rooms?

Noise:
Perhaps because I faced the park and the street. It was annoying being able to hear everything down below, car alarms going off, people fighting, etc all day and all night.

Location:
About as good as it gets. One block from Del Rey. They had some festival in the part this past weekend and fireworks friday night. I had a good view from my balcony.

All in all, it's a fine hotel for the price. The no tica fee is perfect for this location. No thumbs up, but no thumbs down either.

What room has a balcony?
