My Costa Rican calendar has "Ascension del Senor a los Cielos" marked for today but there is no celebration held here. Coincidently today is a national holiday. Labor day is celebrated every May 1 where as the Ascension day moves depending on when Easter falls. Interesting that the calendar refers to Senor rather than Jesús or Cristo.

ID,
In latin countries, the Catholics use senor interchangeable with GOD, JESUS or CRISTO. In fact in many different ceremonies in the church, "senor" is used almost exclusivly when refering to "Jesus"

Thanks. That now clears up some of the bumper stickers I have seen.

I just chatted with a lady in Colombia and she said, "hoy es el dia internacional del trabajo, esto se celebra alli?"
(today is it the international day of the work, is this celebrated there?)

She also said they do not work today as "es dia festivo" (it is a holiday).

Mexico City North, Los Angeles, and Wilshire Blvd. is shut down today for the "rally" for the injustice done to the "undocumented aliens".

After that there will be a rally to support the "Taco Trucks" (roach coaches), and the new parking regulations. Honestly it is happening!!

Only in southern California!!!

No other major holidays in May or June. Third Sunday in June is a minor one, Fathers day

Mothers Day, which is a biggie, is August 15 again. Pacheco administration screwed around changing it to a Monday every year but that was unpopular so they made it a fixed date, Aug. 15, again.

50 years ago every country in Latin America celebrated this holiday. The tendency now is to eliminate religious holidays, as it hurts the economy.
Thanks,
