Are you less satisfied with your "gulch experience" today than in the past (1-2 years ago)??

I don't spend endless hours at the DR like I used to.However when I am there I am usually focused on finding new chicas to supplement my rotation. The "hunt" is still a favorite activity. The good ones still go there. You just have to be patient.Living here,as many of us do,you aren't under the PRESSURE as Jazz says,to "hurry up and have a good time".

This sums it up for me. Living in CR really changes my attitude. I am much more laid back about finding the right one and dropping the not right ones when I feel no time pressure. I completely understand the "pull the trigger anxiety" that guys face when they want to have an epic time and don't want it ruined by a bad selection.

There is nothing sadder than the look on a guys face as he drags his luggage to the taxi. Just when he was sure he had it figured out he ran out of time...

I really think it is what you make it. If you are in a good mood and are ready to party, there are plenty of girls who are anxious to play. If you look like you stepped on your favorite puppy they pick up on that and reflect your attitude back at you. Just my opinion...

I agree with this as well. It's hard for a girl to be outgoing and personable when you aren't reciprocating.

Geez, T! That's a little more information than I need! Point well taken though, and that's why as V-Bob said, you need to hunt for new talent. Living there can't be compared to one-week visits and the majority on this board (I believe) are visitors. The "newbie" phenom is a factor no matter the destination, so we should leave them out of the equation. My experience is that the more guys, the worse the chica attitudes. I, too, saw a change in SJ and wish the clock could be turned back, but it can't. And the fat girl thing? That's spreading, no pun intended. Increases in meat mass has increased in Colombia and Brazil, too. I think Asian girls are still flaca (lol).

Trust me, I'd much prefer a steady diet of CR visits with its relatively short and inexpensive flights. But in Colombia and Brazil I have superior experiences - to the point that I lived 6 months in Rio and will return for 3 months this summer. And Colombia became my new "short weekender."

Crook - Learn another language. Get going! (lol) Buy the Pimsleur and grunt it out! You'll be so glad you did! And while you're at it, buy the Portuguese set, too, and go experience ass in Brazil like you'll never experience anywhere else. It's not a mirage, and it's not wishful thinking. It's ass. It's real ass, and it's serious, bikini tan-lined ass - all the girls, all the time, and all day long. And if you want to Greek that firm, slap-able, tan-lined ass, more often than not the girl's attitude will be disconcertingly enthusiastic. The Spanish will help if you decide to try Colombia, Argentina, or Peru, or even if you choose to stick with CR.

They say learning new shit as you age wards off Alzheimer's.

I think a lot of the negativism has to do with "familiarity breeds contempt". On the first exposure to CR,and the Gulch in particular, guys are usually overwhelmed. Whether it is the DR,KL,NF or ZB they have never experienced anything close to this utopia anywhere in the States. Unless they have mongered in other destinations around the World, this is as good as it gets. ".
Good points VB. I try to change locations so that i don't get burned out on any one place.I like Costa Rica very much but there is a big world out there to explore. One of the best things about Costa Rica is meeting the guys from the board and sharing game plans and notes on the chicas.(don't think i'll ever get tired of that so i plan to make a couple trips each year for that alone)

What I do is come in for a weekend in town at DR and KL , rent s car and spend a few days at a playa and then return for another weekend in the Del Rey Area. I get tired of the scene after a couple of days and need a change. I used to take one of the chicas with me but that got to be to much of a hastle ; ie showing up 2 hours late, using cell phone during dinner etc so now I go it alone and just relax.

Questions : I've been around the area but don't know the names of all the places. The blue Marlin I believe is the bar to the left of the main entrance. What is the Zona Blue is that the higher up darker bar behind the reception area ?? Where exactly is the Sportsman Lounge ??

It could be that your expectations were to high or the novelty has worn off.I find it hard to believe that all your experiences in 2 days were bad. CR is what you make of it and i don't think you tried very hard.Maybe on this trip you were part of the problem.

Wayne,

The Blue Marlin, the Sportsmen's Lodge [Lounge, as you say] and Zona Blue are 3 completely different places. The Blue Marlin is the elevated bar area inside the Del Rey Hotel. The Sportsmen's Lodge is a hotel/bar/restaurant located in Barrio Amon, about 3 blocks to the rear of the Del Rey. Zona Blue is a massage parlor/bar/hotel located in Barrio Amon as well....about 2 blocks just down the hill from New Fantasy.
