Some interesting information from an article in todays Inside Costa Rica.

According to a study of 250 Costa Rican men under the age of 40, only 3 have been faithful to their partner. And women haven't have been too faithful either, according to sexologist, Mauro FernÃ¡ndez, who says that 85% of women have cheated.

FernÃ¡ndez blames cheating partners on several things, a lack of sexual desire, sentimental problems between the couple and in a smaller scale a desire for vengeance.

It is typical for Costa Rican men to cheat on their partner. FernÃ¡ndez says that many men say after marriage that is if the wife that got married.

FernÃ¡ndez stressed that 25% of the men are adulterous because their spouse does not want to be with them and seek out other women.

The sexologist added that sentimental problems between couples and premature ejaculation go against the interest of women and that 6 out of 10 men suffer from premature ejaculation. The study reveals that 7n out of 10 women cheat on their partner because they don't feel loved, wanted and respected.

An interesting fact revealed by the study is that when the woman is unfaithful the marriage usually ends, while women will accept their men cheating on them and continue with the relationship.

The study also revealed that 12% of the women who cheat say it is because of lack of sex in the relationship and 6% do so to get even.

Another interesting fact revealed by the study is that half of the men do not have an erection and 80% of the women studied are not satisfied by their men.

FernÃ¡ndez categorizes cheating:

1. "sexo fortuito" (chance encounter). Sex with little pleasure and not premeditated

2. "amiga con derecho" (friend with rights). The relationship is based solely on sex and no feelings

3. "la amante" (the lover). Those in this group are very clear on their sexual role and relationship

4. "la querida" (the loved one). This type of relationship carries with it responsibility of maintenance and dependence

In my opinion, a similar study performed in ANY country would reveal that the majority (over 50%) of married people are or have been unfaithful. This isn't exactly groundbreaking information, but the statistics for CR presented in that article are pretty staggering.

98.8% of men and 85% of women is far in excess of a simple majority (50%)

I would think you would have to have taken that poll at a Tico MP to reach those kind of numbers for the men

This particular statistic rang true to me. I don't doubt that a large percentage of (unfaithful) men can't get it up with their spouse, but probably have no difficulty doing so with their mistress. My ex-wife once bought viagra for me, thinking that would solve our "intimacy" issues. Funny, I've never needed viagra in Costa Rica.

Many years ago I had a novia here whose ex husband was very wealthy. I loved the story she told and i think it really fits and describes the mentallity of both male and female here in CR.

Her story: " I was very 'upset' when I found out about the girlfriend and 2 K*ds he had had with her; I was 'mad' when I found out about the 2nd girlfriend and 2 K*ds; I was really, 'really upset and mad' when I found out about the 3rd girlfriend and 2 more K*ds, but the final blow and the reason I divorced him was when I found out that ALL THREE had bigger homes and newer cars than I did!"

In most latin countries, it is almost expected that men will have amantes or at least have sexual adventures; and the wives ,thou they do not like it, tolerate it. At the same time, in most latin countries married women tend to be very religious and faithful no matter what their husband may do. In Costa Rica, maybe because of the gringo influence, and thou a very religious country, it is less so than most latin countries, the women seem to be more inclined to cheat also, especially if they are being cheated on, or feel there is fiancial gain involved. Over the years I have known several Ticas that have no problem with an extramarital afairs; and I am not referring to the many, many putas working the REY, KL, SL etc, that are married.

As for the "50% can't get it up". I have had several chicas in the Low rent MPs tell me that there are 2 reasons for so many Ticos standing around in the MPs. 1: They know that the 'best' chicas will be busy and they are waiting to see all the chicas before picking one! 2: Many Ticos cannot afford the price of a session (even a $10 session in the pensions on calle 6). They stand around looking at the putas till they get excited and worked up, then go home and pluck their fat ugly wife, or jack-off!! One puta said many guys have told her that is the only way they can get it up with their wives

And Ciaociao, you are right. MY last gringa wife thought I was impotent because I could not get it up with her, while I was visiting local MPs and had girlfriends with whom I had no problem. I finally even told her I was not impotent, that the problem was her. Her response was that that was impossible considering how sexy and good in bed she was

.. OH yeah, she had gained 60 lbs, had several mental problems, and thought her main job was to dictate to me everything I could do and not do.

I wish without a doubt that I knew this to be true. I don't get the killer jealousy streak that most Latinas have within them if they simply accept this from their husband or BF. The two extremes do not seem to go together.... jealously and "oh well, I have to accept, it is what it is."

The only men I think this applies to are rich men. I wonder what the average Jose has that would attract and keep a woman on the side? The average Jose who has a difficult time caring for his own family.

I think the mistress in Latin countries is for the few and so much more myth than reality.

You can doubt all you want but I have spent the past 30+ years working with, dating and being married to latinas and I have seen it thousands of times. And more in the poor and uneducated than in the rich. I have seen it in the legal and illegal Mexicans in the states, I have seen it in the poor, the middle class (what few there are), and the rich in Mexico; I have seen it in all the classes in Colombia; and I have seen it over and over again in places like Hatilo, Puntrenas, Escazu, and Heredia, here in Costa Rica. Latin women, as you said, are very jealous; but they also (in most cases because of religion) put up with cheating husbands because their mothers did, their sisters did, their friends did;mainly because they do not believe in divorce. For sure they do not tend to tolerate cheating by boyfriends; but do tend to tolerate cheating husbands rather than go against their religion. They also tend to tolerate cheating husbands because the divorce laws in most latin countries greatly favor the husband. Per example my ex novia here; though her husband was one of the wealthiest men in Central America, she got nothing in the divorce except for 1/2 interest in some land that had been hers before the marriage, and that was after 27 years of marriage.

What I find most interesting, assuming it's true, is that 60% of of tico's suffer from premature ejaculation. Maybe that explains why the tica's seem so put off by men that go more than a few seconds

If I were unfaithful I would tell nobody. If there were a Mrs. gypsy and she were to find me on top of a lady (or doggie), I still deny it. Nothing good can come out of that sh*t. Besides, real men don't kiss and tell. :evil:
