Exactly. They are trying to curb gambling in Las Vegas as well. Some people should be restricted from leaving CA.

drop dead, neocons

If the term makes you happy I will gladly accept it. I also would settle for personal freedom fighter. So both of us stand against what many CA and NY liberals hate, making a decision for yourself.Sorry Bilko, like a liberal with a real job, you are in the minority.

Mr Las Vegas, this is not a political forum, and your snide little insults do not belong here. You may be surprised to know that not every monger is a flaming right wingnut. But just in case you hadn't noticed, it is the religious RIGHT who are opposed to prostitution and gambling and drinking and dancing, not liberals. San Francisco is a lot more free and tolerant than any red state you can name, with the possible exception of Nevada, your home.

I realize that this is not an appropriate forum for politics, but since the admin is letting you go ahead with political rants and personal attacks, I have replied in kind.

Well said, Bilko!

While we are on the subject, calling something "Gangsta" does not make it less racist, MrLV (Fun and Smack Talk forum).

Several other sources tell me that Greg is incorrect or avoiding the truth when he says that these decrees will go away. decent article on page 1 of Fridays amcostarica.com. Our illustrious President Arias has already signed the decree and all that is left for it to be law is the posting in the appropriate local newspaper. All this is an attempt to keep a Russian company from opening up here in SJ. WOW...talk about "throwing out the baby with the bathwater". Hopefully the Association of Casino Owners can have their attornies stall this thing for 10-20 years but I'm not too confidant they can do it.

VB, I could be wrong, but the way I understand it is that you can't stall a Presidential decree. The Horseshoe has got to be sweating it as this will be a major disaster for them.

I have no knowledge as to how,or how much stalling can go on with the decrees. However I hear that the Horseshoe will have the same rights as the casinos WITH hotel rooms because of their grandfathered status. It's interesting to note that the Fiesta Casino in Alleuela doesn't have a hotel ATTACHED.It is,instead across the driveway entrance. Also if vandals ripped down the covering for the walkway between the Colonial Casino and the Sleep Inn Hotel, then the hotel would no longer have the required "attached" provision.

Haven't been there in a while, but in the Bahamas gambling is restricted to exclude the locals. The strange thing about all this is that the government needs to do a lot more to cut down on street crime. Putting more people out of work isn't going to help the problem.

So, what would happen if they removed gambling from the Del Rey completely? The tables and slots don't get any of my attention anyway. Is the HDR making enough to keep the space available when gambling is not taking place?

If it were my decision and I had to close gaming down for a significant portion of the day, I wouldn't keep it as the center of the room. I would move the gaming area to the space behind the back bar and use the central space for something 24/7, like girls and drinks!

I don't mean to detour the thread, I am just wondering what it will look like with the new "law" if effect.

Here's an interesting article in today's Inside Costa Rica. After reading this, I was wondering if anyone has seen a difference with the way casinos in CR are operating lately? Here's the article:

Casino Hours
The Government of Costa Rica is enforcing the regulations on casinos, which until now have been operating around the clock and will have to limit themselves to a 6 p.m.-2 a.m. schedule.

Casinos were first conceived as entertainment for guests of 3-or-more star hotels, but have proliferated in such a way that they operate by themselves, observe no time limitations, serve liquors, and can be accessed directly from public streets, among other irregularities.

A spokesperson for the casino association said that they need to operate for at least 18 hours every day, from 12 noon through 6 a.m., and that the new schedule means the loss of at least 3,000 jobs.

Up until now,all the casinos in SJ have been ignoring this decree. I was unaware that it took place already. The last word I had was that it was to be posted in the nowspaper a few weeks ago, (don't know if it actually was) then it would be 6 more months until compliance was manditory.

Casino management is meeting with their employees next week. They will start firing dealers on May 21th.
