Having watched TACA's fares for a couple of years now, all I can say is they are all over the charts. When booking a trip, I viewed their site 3-6 times a day.

It is nothing for them to be up, or down by a couple of hundred dollars in the same day. The same day that their site was over $500.00 http://www.vayama.com was $322.02, go figure. I'm still trying to figure out why Vayama had that fare. I e-mailed TACA and was given a confirmation number, so I guess it works.

Today TACA LAX-SJO 7/3-7/10 $599.02; Vayama LACSA $640.00.

It has been my experience with TACA that you have to catch them at the right moment, on the right day. There seems to be no rhyme, nor reason for their pricing. The low costs fares usually do not last a whole day.

^ +1 but the fares are up lately. and it seems across the board not just taca.
with the state of affairs regarding the economy you would think it would be the exact opposite.
maybe the airlines are run by ticas.

I am sure TACA and every airline would be very happy if they could lower fares to attract more business in this down economy.

However oil prices continue to rise for all airlines. In the case of TACA all their aircraft carry U.S. registration numbers which would indicate that they are leased from a major U.S. leasing company which requires US$ payments every month. The declining dollar is therefore making those payments more expensive if the bulk of their income is in the form of various Central American currency. Even if most of their income is in the form of US$ a lot of their expenses, salaries, rent, airport fees are in local currency so again the weak dollar is hurting them.

All in all a tough time for both airlines and the traveling public. Mo winners here.

Reality of it is, the computer system is smarter then you or I, so it must be working. People are still flying at the same rates.

Airlines arent making money on deep discount fares, which is what most of us fly. They make money on vacation bookings, and then business and first class travel. The people they make money on arent necessarily as critical when it comes to saving 100$

Personally, Id rather everyone up their damn prices oppose to everyone simply going out of business and then being at the mercy of a few airlines.

In reality though, changes have to be made. They will eventually start charging fee's for everything, and people will have to pick and choose what really matters to them. You can knock the Spirit system all you want, but its almost the only way.

You know, stuff like 10-20$ for each checked bag, 5$ for non kiosk checkin, -3$ for not checking any bags, etc. Some airlines use it now, and its really not that big a deal. To the airline though its millions of dollars at play.

While searching flights yesterday, I noticed several that state "meal available for purchase". Might become another optional item.

$319 is pretty good. I paid $344 a while back from ORD. Lately I've been seeing higher fares, past week or so.
