A friend just got back DR 3-31/4-4. He said girls were willing to take $40-$60 on day shift and $50-$80 at night. He has 10 trips under his belt and negotiates pretty well, but he also tips well. While i usualy only tip the MP girls he will toss an independent a tip for good service.Another friend leaves the 14th and is not a tipper(at least 40 trips). If he says same then i would have to think the US economy has something to do with it.

Maybe its just me, but I highly doubt the recession is playing that big a role. From my experiences, mongers arent really poverty stricken individuals. Most seem to be high middle class IMHO. Plus, the majority are throwing foreign currency around like its the end of the world.

As for airfare, has it really got more expensive? When I started flying to CR, flights were 500-600$ from JFK, now they are 300$

Supply and demand, and no one can dictate the demand as of yet. Airlines havent really been cancelling flights to suspect destinations, so they are at the mercy of the consumer as of now.

Still, every plane Ive been on in the last couple months - year, has been pretty near jam packed. Things cant be that bad.

I trade e-mails with a girl who works in real estate up in Guanacaste. She said our "recession" has slammed their sales hard. But there seems to be no shortage of gringos around the gulch. And its true most of the flights both ways from Houston and Miami and Dallas are booked solid most of the time.
I can't imagine the working girls are feeling too much of a pinch from our economy yet.

But I'll bet that the girls in the gulch have been reading (or heard) the news. With their limited view of the world, I imagine that many of them think that all of the gringos are broke!

It's good to see that the basic economic laws of supply & demand are still working though. Fortunately for us, these girls haven't formed a cartel where they could regulate the price. I guess that they don't realize that if they have fewer clients then they will have to charge more to keep their income the same!

Sure the falling US Economy is have a very negative impact on CR Tica business. It you can barely afford to buy gas to get to your medicore low paying job, how can you afford a high class tica, nica or colombiana to "service" you on a regular basis. It is much more cheaper for the guys to just "jack-off " and save a lot of money that the whores would have extracted from you!

I believe that our recession will dissuade some mongers rom visiting CR. That said, there is a plethora of cheap airfares to be had. Additionally, most mongers in my opinion have a little bit more money to spend and will still visit CR even if they space their trips out a bit. In the final analysis, this may help hold the line on cien requests as evidenced by another thread about HDR girls recently being more willing to negotiate.

You can talk all you want about the recession, inflation in CR, 5-1 ratio of chicas to Gringos, rainy season, and a general reduction in gringo travel BUT all I know is that it's still tough to get a room in the Gultch. Somebody is coming here looking for pu*sy. in the 4 1/2 years that I have lived here,I have seen very little variance is travellers.

I for one have not limited the number of trips planned for the next 12-18 months but those airfares have had me cutting back on the number of nights that i spend in each location including Costa Rica.In a recession i think guys probably watch their funds a little more than when things are going better in the economy.Hopefully this slowing of the economy is history very soon.

According to the latest figures released by the tourist bureau tourism is up for the first quarter of this year.

" Costa Rica Is An Imán (Magnet) For Tourism
According to figures released by the Cámara Nacional de Turismo (Canatur), 532.000 tourists visited Costa Rica during the first three months of the year, 65.000 more than the same period in 2007.

The Canatur numbers take into account entries by tourists at the two international airports and land crossing points.

The numbers are broken down as such: 358.705 people entered by way of the Juan Santamaría (San José) international airport; 78.014 at the Daniel Oduber International airport in Liberia; and 95.281 by land crossings at Peñas Blancas border with Nicaragua and Paso Canoas with Panama.

Carlos Benavides, ministro de Turismo (tourism minister) said that the increase shows no negative effect with the economical crisis in the United States, the major source for tourists visiting Costa Rica.

Benavides said that the almost 14% increase in tourism is the wish of most countries around the world.

Notwithstanding the good news, Benavides showed concern of the high cost of hotel accomodations as they are too high a stretch for most Costa Ricans. The tourism minister said that there should be some incentive for a price reduction.

Alberto López, director of Canatur, said that the increase is due to the good options the country offers tourists. López said that Americans see Costa Rica as a close destination and price accessible and that the efforts to promote the country in the United States is paying off.

López added that the week dollar against the Euro makes Costa Rica one the better options."

I would imagine that if tourism starts to slow it would be now through the rest of the year. I would also imagine most people in Q1 had their trips booked.

I would still imagine that mongers are a small number of tourists. Plus since monger rooms are limited I would bet they will remain full even if the demand slips a little.

Thank goodness I am in Health Care :D No slow down in our business just a shift in who may be paying. 8)

I've got a trip booked for next month & had no problem getting my first choice of accommodation.

Two amigas say business is down... may it's just their luck... I don't know. VB says things are the same and he would know. I'll go with that.

The "number" of travellers is one thing. Their willingness to part with their cash is something else.
