Just Learning The Gulch!

Just curious, I see that May 1 is Costa Rica Labor Day (that Thursday). Does the gulch close down during this weekend? I would appreciate any feedback as I'm ready to pull the trigger and book my trip for that weekend. I'm in town to see my novia but would like to head to the gulch to hang out, well you know what all I mean.
