Medellin is the place!!! Viva la republica!
but what about it makes it a candidate for retirement?
With all due respect ID, have u ever been to MDE?
It IS paradise! I go to CR every month, sometimes twice

, but MDE is still 10X better. U just better know your spanish or have a fluent wingman. MDE is the Beverly Hills of Colombia. Girl to guy ratio is 10 to 1. Simply amazing! IMHO
Hey Zig,
I agree 100% that MDE is a heaveenly place when it concerns Paisas. Parque Lleras, Mangos, San Diego, Mayorista, etc., are just great; and female company is indeed very inexpensive. In addition, the city is much cleaner and safer than SJO, and most basic items needed for daily life are very inexpensive. One example was the new glasses I purchased. In the US they would've easily run me over $400. In MDE I only paid $100 and they were ready in two days.
BUT, with all due respect, ID does bring up a valid point. IF RETIREMENT is what the person is looking at, then MDE can be problematic.
Examples:
1) Unless you purchase a nice Condo/Apartment, which in fact are fairly reasonable, renting one can be expensive because the initial down payment will be quite high.
2) Things can be a bit difficult if you don't speak half way decent Spanish. Naturally, if you stay at La Mansión or El Castillo, you'll have no problems.
3) And be prepared to readjust quite a few of life's luxuries.
Yet I will attest that the factual truth is the Colombianas (Paisas) are more beautiful, curvy, sensual, fun, and hotter than the Ticas, Nicas, Cariocas, and even the TGs. However, remember that everyone's mileage will vary.
I seriously considering a three to six month stay in MDE without making any committments just to see how it goes and find out if retiring there is at all posible. The one thing I found out is that the altitude has been a health issue. However, I would think that in time my ticker would adjust.
It remains to be seen.
IMHO, it all depends on what typew of life each individual is looking for.
