I have mentioned this to a couple of friends (hotel and business owners in SJ) and have discussed hiring some of their people short term for this project. I also have discussed with a couple of brothers who are permanent residents in the San Jose who have offered to stop in and keep tabs on the workers. I am certain we will get Tico rates for this work. I have discussed this with Santas Bro and will update with more information on my upcoming trip in 1 month.

I will report back ASAP.

El S ... We will be there at the same time. I think we need to go over there and spend a little time checking the place over.

I went out of my way to look up Johanna last week and donated the price of a MP session for the orphanage. Doing so made me feel good. If I can play a bit in CR, I certainly do not mind making a contribution to a legitimate good cause. The orphanage is now working on a new kitchen for the orphanage and that will be of value to the overall effort. I give Johanna a ton of credit for working on behalf of the orphans.

Santa, thanks for mentioning this effort. I would have been unaware of it otherwise.

I also just finished a week of volunteer work in the countryside.
There are lots of such opportunities for those so inclined. It is a great way to meet people, travel at lower cost and to do a little bit of good. Meeting nice ticos on their home ground provides amazing access to opportunities and friendships. There is more to CR than just the gulch.

EV,
This whole thing was put together by SantasBro. Even though he's not looking for any credit with this, he's the one who should be getting the credit. Johanna is the local contact person for the orphanage.

Point well taken. Kudus to Santa's Bro too, and to anyone who supports this effort. I kind of like the ideas on mongers contributng time and money to good causes. Good should be done for it's own sake, but I do not mind that those who would stereotype mongers fail to see the whole picture.

Gentlemen:

As of tonight we have $1,658.74 in the account for the orphanage.

There are a couple of members who are going to be in town soon. Hopefully they will be able to go by and review the needs.

We should be able to begin with the process of helping them soon.

Thank you to all who have donated.

Friends:

As of today 3/30/2008 we have $1,900.59 in the account.

There are several members in town who are hopefully going to be rounding up some contractors, and viewing the orphanage to access the needs, and approximate the costs of repairs.

Thanks so much for all your generous donations.

This is a great idea.

It helps them, it's quick, easy, painless, we don't have to do anything and get to feel good about it. Win-Win.

What's a few bucks, really?

The weekly update. We now have $1,948.84 in the account.

We have gotten some initial costs in for the work to begin. There are some members who have agreed to attempt to get other quotes. We should know soon, and your money will be put to work.

Thanks to all for the support of the K*ds.

Would there be some items that the management would like, items that would fit in a suitcase? For an example there is a Consignment shop near where I live, in a nice neighborhood with load of K*D's clothing at cheap prices, I could bring a suitcase full in an upcoming trip.
