Make sure Barrachito Bombero remembers to wear his sunscreen this time. We don't want him to look like a lobster again for the chicas.

Update:

Barachito Bombero did just fine. Not too sunburnt! And it was a day of "firsts".

BB got his first Pacific Sailfish, his first Yellowfin Tuna, and his first Dorado (Mahi), all in the same day.

Morning bite was slow. Due to rough water conditions off of Flamingo, we ran 38 miles to the South, where the fishing reports and water conditions were better. We ended up hooking 4 sailfish and boating 2 of them. We hooked one striped marlin and one blue marlin, but both of them spit the hook shortly into the fight. We got 2 yellowfin tuna, in the 25 - 30 pound range, and a nice bull dorado, between 35 - 40 lbs.

We raised at least 12-15 sailfish in our spread throughout the day, but we had a few finicky fish, and a few short strikes. Overall, it was another great day on the water. And the fresh sushi & mahi for dinner was awesome!

I'll let BB tell the rest of the story!

MG summed it up nicely. I might add the the crew MG has put together is just a top-notch group. These guys work real hard. I was continually amazed how these guys would spot a fin sticking out of the water at great distances (namely Victor, MGs good buddy and tour director) Bottom line is these guys work REAL HARD to get you into the fish.

On a day that had 30 mph wind gusts, MG's crew assured us of calmer areas down the coast. Like magic, after an hour of fighting choppy conditions, we arrived to smooth and bountiful waters.

Vic Tours is the name of the operation, They work out of the Flamingo resort in Flamingo Beach Guanacaste. Call these guys if you want some quality fishing!!

Check the photo gallary for some pics

Thanks go out again to MG, I look forward to the next time!! Sin Locitas!!

El BB

Nice looking dorado, did you only catch 1 or were there others with it?

I like catching slammer dolphin.

We only got the one Dorado that day. We were dragging billfish baits most of the day, trying to get BB his first marlin. But we hooked 4 sails and 2 marlin. Plus, we already had a couple nice yellowfin tuna in the cooler for dinner, so we weren't trying for dorado. It was simply by-catch. But awfully tasty!

Nice fish MG!..freaking monsters..lol I'll be in town 4/5-4/10. Was wondering if it's possible to do any fishing on day trips out of SJO. Is this even doable? Maybe you could point me in the right direction. I don't have enough guys to charter a boat (just me). Thanks.

It won't be cheap. Especially for one person.

The most cost effective way to fish out of SJO, is to find a good rate for transportation (personal taxi, shuttle, interbus, etc.). Go to Jaco, walk down the docks and try to find a crew that you like. Plan on being in the $700 - 800 range. There'll be other boats that'll charge you more, but it'll be tough to find a full day charter for less than $700 (unless you stay inshore).

Good luck, and tight lines!

MG

Thanks for the reply MG. I'll think about that for next time if I can find other guys to go or win the lottery..lol If not maybe I can do some inshore fishing out of a Panga, that sounds like fun too.
