I am flying Spirit for the first time in April. Alwats used AA. My flight back to FLL is a Friday at 1:15. I am using Interbus which has a four hour thing which I can change my pick-up time in advance. What time do I need to be at the airport?

Guys, there is no doubt Spirit Air's cust. service sucks. Even if you have to call them while you are here in the States, you will be on hold forever. They are in business as a value based carrier(IE, CHEAP FLIGHTS), and that's it, service be damned. I missed a flt from SJO-FLL once, and I sat at the SJO counter 2 hrs waiting for the guy to come back and change my ticket. ANother time, I extend my trip in SJO(hehehe), I had to have a friend back home call Spirit since there was no # we can reach fro CR. CR doesn't allow 1-800- #'s. I like them b/c their schedule is better than AA's especially from FL. west coast and I can save a 3 hr. drive to FLL.
Now, if they'd only open a route direct from TPA or even better, SRQ, I'd be in serious trouble.

Captain, that direct Sarasota to SJO route will be coming right after Delta begins service from Valdosta to CDG.

Hey PR,
Not sure I understand what you mean about waiting till they call your name. I don't check any bags, so I just scanned my passport, got my boarding pass and went to the gate. :?:

When checking bags... but it still saves some time anyway to do the kiosk route...

Of course if you've got hand luggage only - then you're golden

In April I'm flying a great schedule out of ORD to SJO. My ticket on Spirit is $50.50 each way. Taxes and fees were almost as much, $74.00. For that price, heck, I'll be happy if they get me there in one day! The savings will pay for almost a week of having fun. "Pre-purchase" baggage until Feb. 20, were $5. each, for my two suitcases for my coffee.

If the newspaper was telling the truth last week: over 25% of all U.S. flights are now late or cancelled.

For you guys that are going for just a few days being delayed really sucks but for me who's going for a couple of weeks it's no big deal.

If it Flys, Floats or F**ks, it's cheaper to rent it.

Hottubfun, I am not trying to break your balls, but you say if the Spirit desk was closed you would choose another carrier. I agree with that in theory but at FLL are there that many others options to SJO? I think AA has one flight a day, as of 12/14/07 (took it SB weekend). I could see your point being very accurate but at MIA. I dare say that would be the only domestic airport with the frequency to SJO (but I could be wrong).
I have to say that American has been a trusted airline at least with me. I think there's 4 or 5 flights out of Miami daily to SJO. I will say that the delays have started to become a pain in the ass, most of my delays have been leaving SJO rather than MIA. I have NEVER lost luggage with AA, but have waited forever in MIA to recieve it, long enough to miss my connecting flight to Tampa. Just booked AA out of MIA for May 29th $369.00 first class.

FYI:

On my SPIRIT flight to SJO last Friday I confirmed that there is no way to use a self serve kiosk to check in for an international flight. You MUST see an attendant...

That must vary from airline to airline. Last week I flew Delta (although the LAX-SJO leg was operated by LACSA/TACA). I checked in at the Kiosk at SFO and it issued me boarding passes for both SFO-LAX and LAX-SJO. It did require me to scan my passport on the kiosk terminal scanner.

Yes. AA has the kiosks in MIA but not at FLL. Maybe soon. Maybe Spirit soon as well. Anything to make the check in easier is win-win all around.

I think AA is installing them at all the airports they serve. I used a AA kiosk at LAX in October. Most likely they started at their busiest stations and are working their way down to the others.

Even if you have a bag to check it is great. Punch in your record locater number, scan your passport and presto it issues you your boarding passes. An agent at the counter calls your name and you take your bag over and they attached the luggage tag that has already been printed. Took me about 4 minutes total.
