in San Jose?

I'm flying in Friday and I need to go directly to Jaco.

I was planning on staying overnight in San Jose, but now I need to go directly to the beach. I don't have anything set up.

Any ideas?

Fusionx,

Interbus if the times coincide with your arrival. Otherwise not a bad drive during the day in a rental if time is of importance.

Today is Wednesday, and you're going Friday. Interbus usually requires a 3-4 advance booking online, but you can try calling their number and booking that way. (506) 283-5573

To take Interbus to Jaco from the airport, you would have to board at the Hampton Inn, just outside the airport. The afternoon bus leaves at 3pm. You can take a taxi from the aiport to Hamptonn Inn, a 5 minute ride.

Another option is to take a taxi. You can negotiate with one of the pirate taxi guys waiting outside the terminal area. Maybe you can catch a ride with somebody going to Jaco for a reduced price, otherwise it'll cost you around $80, give or take.

A rental is another option. The drive isn't bad.

You can also catch a public bus that passes by the airport on its way to Jaco. But you'd need to know where it stops, what time, etc. I can't help you there.

If you can make the 3pm Interbus and they let you book it today, do that. It's $25 to Jaco. It's a comfortable mini-bus with A/C. The second option is to try to get in on a taxi with somebody else going to Jaco. The third is to take a taxi solo.

Thanks everyone

I'm in Jaco now and it's been a blast so far. I'll try to get back and write up some sort of trip report.

I ended up grabbing a taxi from the airport. The driver was very cool (I'll post his info later). The ride was $80- that's what he asked and I didn't negotiate. I'm sure he would do the same trip for $60 or so. Probably less. I was tired from working too much this last week, and partying the night before my trip with little sleep, so I just accepted his first offer... I know.. bad gringo...

He had a flat tire on the way, just past Atenas, and he couldn't figure out how to change it. The car kept rolling back and making the jack lean too far to be safe. I jumped in the ditch and grabbed a rock, blocked the front wheel, rolled the car back to make it secure, and changed the wheel for him.. it's an adventure! It might have taken me 10 minutes so I didn't care.

He bought me a couple bottles of water when we stopped to drop off the flat tire to get it repaired.. pretty nice guy. He was a blast to talk with - knows a lot about the area between San Jose and Jaco, and speaks pretty good english.

He is getting the tire fixed, and was a great guy, so I feel ok posting his into later tomorrow.

At the moment I'm in my room at the Copacabana. It's ok. It's right off the pool area, it's small and clean, the AC works great.

If you don't like AC and want fresh air, don't get the rooms around the pool.. there's no windows that open.

Security in the rooms is pretty lacking. One simple door knob lock, and no in-room safe...

They seem to be charging $20 for a "room guest" - that was explained to me when I checked in. I'll be testing that soon :)

The Copa is right around the corner from the Beatle Bar, and tonight, the Beatle is smokin.. I can't even come close to estimating the number of girls there tonight, but there are "mucho". There are a lot of 6 and 7s, and a good number of 8s. I may have seen a 9, but I'm pretty drunk and can't be positive! I'm partying with a group of cousins that are getting very drunk and love to have a good time.

Which reminds me, I need to get back there :)

Oh.. and my flight got changed to Thursday, which totally screwed up my arrangements.. but it's all good.. still looking for a room in San Jose for Sunday night. The guy at the Del thinks he has one for me, so it's looking good.

Back to the Beatle! Ciao :)

When did the Copa start this, or are they just screwing over Fx? Did you mention you're a CRT member- maybe they waive guest fee for us? :? It's been a while but know I never paid one.

They seem to be pretty situational on discounts and that is why I dont recommend them.. The hotel may be ok but it is the point of it. And I dont buy the not giving a discount or honoring the chica fee agreement in the high season.. I have relationships with hotels here, they give me a certain percentage discount or commission and that percentage doesnt change. Yes, the high season and low season price changes but I still get the same percent discount.

There should be an in-room safe, check under the sink. I believe there is a $3 charge for its use (well worth it). Also, when I was there last October, they gave me the chica fee discount.
