Went to L"Ancora lastnight with a friend. Showed Hilber my VIP card and he said the do not honor it for a discount. I told him I was paying in cash and he went in the back and came out and said no. Admin what gives. If they are not going to honor discouts then they need to be removed from the sight.

Location: Referred to the OIG by Mucho Gusto after mysterious fire at his gay night club.
Happens from time-to-time. Ownership changes, new person and so on. It's Costa Rica, things change by the minute. Your best bet is to shrug and move on and try and deal with the manager later.

Perhaps it COULD be a case where if our members do not support a business that offers us discounts, they will see no need or desire to continue them. L Ancora was always my favorite Italian restaurant in SJO and the owner always cordial and involved. I'm sure Admin will get to this as soon as he's able. But, if the chef/owner is still the same, then personally I think it is still the best Italian value in SJO with or without the 10% discount. YMMV of course.

Has anyone been to IL Ritorno. The place was suggested to me but circumstances beyond my control kept me from visiting the place. While in SJO in Jan., the Chef/Owner had recieved a great review in one of the local scribes.

Location Barrio California, 200m (656 ft.) south of KFC, San Pedro/Los Yoses

Phone 225-0543

Havent been to Ritorno in over 3 years...but it has been there a long time on calle 8. It is more pricey than other options...and personally I have never felt good service or welcomed there. Its very small and even when empty they start with a snootily asked question of "do you have reservations with us". I ate there a couple times, but never felt the food and service measure up to the price tag.
