OK, I have read hundreds of posts, sent in my request for VIP status, and am working on coordinating flights and hotels. I am a newbie to this forum but not a newbie to worldwide mongering. I would guess I have about 29 years of mongering experience that started in the Philippines. Tons of good information on this board and this will be my first trip to CR so I greatly appreciate the 411 here. I was going to go back to the Philippines again this year but that 24 hour flight is a killer so I decided on CR. Here goes the questions.

1. If I am reading everything right DR references the Hotel Del Ray?

2. Why are the DR ladies more plentiful but also more expensive? Is hanging out at the DR more of a status for them?

3. Any issues (other than the exchange rate) paying for your hotel on your CC or do you settle up in cash?

4. I plan to spend a day fishing while there (probably out of Jaco). Is it best to be there the night before? If driving in CR is anything like the Asian countries I have been in then it looks like I should plan on a 2 nighter in the area I am fishing out of?

5. Best way to get from SJ to the fishing location and $$?

6. I will be solo there so chartering a 60' boat will be overkill (although I intend on taking a lady with me). Any skipper recommendations?

I hope to be there sometime in April and get to meet some of you there for a cold one. I have no problem flying solo but it's always fun to run with guys who have the same "outlook" on life

Appreciate any feedback and look forward to getting to know some of the members here.

Welcome to CRT.

Yes, here's a thread in the NEWBIE section that lists many of the abbreviations you'll see on this board:

The DR is the most popular hooker hangout in CR. That's where about 97% of the gringos go, so that's where all the money is, so that's where most of the chicks go. There are only a handful of places for independents to hook at: DR, SL, and NYB are most well-known. Many of the girls and the gringos don't even know about the SL. The NYB is just a depressing bar/restaurant where older chicks and chicks banned from the DR hook at.

You'll need a CC to reserve a room, but you can pay your final bill in cash if you please. Most credit cards tack on a 3% international fee for charges made in colones. Some places can charge your card in dollars, don't know if a fee applies too.

It's definitely not a day trip, and you don't want to be on the roads at night. You should probably plan for a 2-night trip fishing. If going to Jaco, get there the afternoon before fishing, check in to a hotel, go to the Beatle Bar at night and have fun. Wake up the next morning at 6am and go fishing. Come back at 3-4pm and go back and get ready to hit the BB that evening too. The 3rd day, go back to SJ.

If you are going solo or with 1 other person, Interbus is a cheap option ($25/each-way). Book at www.interbusonline.com You can also taxi, negotiable $60-100 each way.

Not from Jaco. You can get a good recommendation out of Flamingo from a member named Mucho Gusto. Send him a PM if interested. You can fly to Tamarindo (then taxi to Flamingo) on Nature Air for as little as $35 each way. www.natureair.com

Also, you should read all the sticky's in each section, especially the NEWBIE section.

Numero 6. If you want to fish... fish. If you want to phuck... phuck. If you want to "phuck-in-fish" don't. You wouldn't take sand to the beach... so leave the chica out of the fishin'... if fishing is what you really want to do. :D

If he's going solo, it'll be an awfully long and boring day by himself. You can take a girl, just make sure she'll enjoy it and won't bitch and moan all day.

Totally disagree!

Nashvillehobbyist,
Here's a thread that might interest you.

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... ht=hookers

Have a great time. By the way... a 60 footer is definitely overkill for one person (and possibly a chica). You can charter a 29-34 footer for a fraction of the price. IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! And you'll probably do just as good with the fishing. Bigger boats don't mean more (or bigger) fish. They just mean more money. And usually the bigger, more expensive boats are owned by rich gringo's who don't know shit about fishing in CR waters. Besides that, you're only going (maybe) 20-25 miles offshore. Hell, on a nice day, you can do that in a canoe!

Walk down to the docks and talk to some of the crews. You'll be able to tell who knows the game, and who's talkin' outa their ass.

Have fun!

MG

MG... there are exceptions to every experience. Nevertheless, in general, I wouldn't bring sand to the beach. If a guy wants to get a bj on a boat in the middle of the pacific... fine. If he really wants to go fishing... focus on the objective otherwise he might find himself occupied with bitchin', moaning, pukin' and the like. :)

This may be true, but on the flip side - he also "might" find himself a nice chica who enjoys being on the water. And one who wouldn't mind giving him a nice weenie-wash in the cabin!

Plus, I assumed that - because of his screen name, that he's probably from Nashville. And I don't think he's doing too much offshore fishing in Nashville, let alone - getting blown while fishing offshore.

But Mr. Nashville,
Berk (and Orange) both make good points. You might want to make sure that you've picked a "good" chica to take on the water for a day. She can fulfill your fantasies, or try to make you miserable all day. So be careful with your selection process.

Mucho Gusto,

We may not be close to the ocean here but I do a lot of "offshore" fishing here in Nashville. It is not unusual for me to take a lady out on my boat here and have a little fun! Party Cove here can be an absolute blast. I've been on the ocean many times fishing so I am not a novice there. I've also learned that if the "bite is off" then the ability to take a break with a lady on the boat would be fun too! Not quite sure I want to invest a couple of days fishing on my first trip there though. May save that for a later trip (I can always head to the Keys) and concentrate on the local flavors.
