Coming into town soon and was wondering how safe the rooms are at the SL. Is traveling with a laptop a bad idea? Would it fit into the safe when I leave the room?

All comments are appreciated.

The rooms are very safe in my opinion. I don't know about the other safes in the other rooms but the one in the penthouse will not hold your laptop. The Sportsmen's is one of the last places I would be worried about it.

While the SL is not immune to the kind of thefts we're discussing here, I feel that it is fairly secure.

I have stayed both in the old and new sections. I have never stowed my laptop while staying at the Sportsmen's, and it's never even been touched.

I have left cash sitting on the desk, and the maid actually double checked with me to make sure it was her tip. I either use the little envelope now or fold the 2K note into a thank-you note...but then I just left it on the desk.

Read Boudmon's "Honesty, Honestly" thread, which details how a room maid returned $50.00 that had accidentally gotten sent to the laundry in his jeans. Or El Silencioso's comments in the same thread about how the hotel staff returned his full wallet, which he nearly left behind while heading to the airport for the flight out. :D

My experiences are absolutely no guarantee...but as far as I'm concerned, after staying at the SL 20 days in total over 3 trips... no worries. :)

i didnt reallypostanything about this...but on my last trip while i wasin my bathroom i hear someone messing with my door (my guess its the maid or my wingman ) but i know i have my door locked...anyway i look in and see some guy standing in my room and looking all round my room and we met eyes and he backs out...it surprized me and i stood there thinking about what just happen. So i look outside my door and no one is there and it pissed me off thinking ...why does someone have a key to my room , why isnt the front desk calling me to tell me there was a mistake ..so i go to the desk and ask? front desk girl laughs !! says there was a mistake and acts like no big deal....i ask her why no call ? she said "sir , nothing was taken" i said yes ..nothing but i was in the room...and how can i be sure that key isnt floating around still...i walked away ....
I have a ipod set up that i would hate to lose and it was on my mind the rest of the day almost to the point of me putting my stuff in my wingmans room...well laterthat same night about 4:00 am i hear someone trying to open my door again...and i get out of bed and open the door and no one is there....i said this is bull shit and i had 3 more days booked at the hotel and i checked out ...i looked for bill the last 3 days of my trip but never seen him again....if they would of handled right the first time maybe i would of stayed..but to laugh it off...and make it seem like it was nothing...i still have no ideal ..if it was a honest mistake or not ...

I love the SL, and will be staying there next month.

However, my friend made the mistake of not using the safe one night when he was in a hurry. While we were out, someone unlocked the door, pulled his bag out from under the bed, and took $700. Fortunately, they left his laptop, credit cards and passport. This was in one of the front rooms in the hall next to the "security" guards. I'm sure most of the staff is honest, but it is probably wise to assume that you are not the only one with a key to your room. ALWAYS use the safe.

Would be very curious to know when this occurred...

And yes absolutely - use the safe! It may seem like Cheers, but that doesn't mean bad things won't happen if you're careless...

You possibly won't need your laptop. There are a number of desktops at SL available for your use. Also, you might be very busy with some of the nice chicas visiting there.

Hey GR,
It happened almost exactly one year ago. I remember that because we had just returned from Carnavales in Puntaranus, which I know is this week. My impression was that they had other issues prior to our incident. I generally like the staff and management at SL, but was very dissapointed in the way things were handled. PM me if you want details.

You can get ripped off anywhere, I suppose, but the SL, I believe, is as safe as they come. I stayed in one of those rooms off of the front entrance hallway (PAZ). Sometimes the cleaning lady left the door open while she went somewhere else for a moment or two while cleaning my room (I was sitting in the courtyard where I could see my door.), but then, my door was in plain view of whoever was working the front desk.
Bill runs a pretty tight ship, which is why it can be such a laid-back place for the guests.
I left my laptop out and turned on most of the time and the only time it appeared to be touched was when it was unplugged so they could plug the vaccuum into the same outlet.

About a month ago, I returned to my room at the SL and found that the maid had only partially cleaned, etc. Just then, the desk called me and said that the maid stopped work because I had left the safe open. (I found that nothing was taken.) Needless to say, I was favorably impressed.

You should be careful anywhere and always use the safes. The SL has 24 hour secuirty guards, a chica checkin log and security cameras. That is about the maximum anyone in town has.

Gentlemen,

Addressing this issue the fact of the matter is that any claim of theft we have had and there has been very few over the past 3.5 years have involved girls from Del Rey girls in the room, or multiple girls in the rooms at one time and or lack of using room safes. We have had more misplaced items found in the rooms by staff than there has been actual thefts. Sportsmens Lodge has 24 hour secuirty guards, a chica checkin log and 16 security cameras thoughout the Lodge. Of course we do not have our security camera system intalled in any of the rooms.

Thank You & Best Regards,

Bill

Thanks for doing a great job with the SL. It is tough to find anything to complain about.

Special K, I have been here for a week and have had no trouble with anything missing. Everytime I have had to get service in my room for the TV being out or the anything else, I am always asked if it is ok for them to go in and work on it. They also make sure that my safe is locked before going in. Manfred the front desk clerk is a great guy and looks out for your interest.
