not sure about the exact price of zacapa xo, i think its around c60-70k

At SJO airport dutyfree, 90 bucks.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to pick up a bottle on my next trip to CR, if
it's still available.

You should be able to get them. I have been to SJO 4 times in the past 6 months , the Zacapa centenario XO's always in stock at the duty free's. To be honest, I have been zipping my Zacapa XO for 3 days now and I am not too sure if the quality really warrants the price.

Have been drinking Zacapa 23 since I picked up on it from CRT, actually did a side by side comparison last night with the XO. The attack of the XO is bigger, punchier if I can say that but the smoothness disappoints me a bit. May be I was expecting too much . Then again, the XO is only 25 plus years versus the good old 23. Don't get me wrong, it's still very good rum IMO and absolutely worth trying if you enjoy 23 already.

Thanks for the Intel on the Zacapa XO. As a 23 yo fan always wondered if it was worth the 90 bucks. Sounds like the 23 is thw sweet spot...

Yes! 50 has replaced his broken bottle of Ron Zacape Centenario 23 anos Rum "2007 Nov". I arrived late. About 2:30 p.m. and decided to check the prices at the duty free. They tried to get me to purchase a 15 anos Ron Zacape Centenario for $15 however that was with both the purchase and of the Ron Zacape Centenario 23 anos at $32.00 for a total of $47?

Nope!

You can't let a kitten trick a cat!

Give me one bottle and that will be "Ron Zacape Centenario 23 anos please" I told the sales clerk!

On the way home at Juan Santamaria Aorport Continental made me put it back in my carry on! Told me customs would not allow it. I was goimg to carry it on. It was still in the duty free bag with receipt. WTF/SOB/JC/MOG/FHMePlease they are killing me!

Hell no!

This was not happening to me again. "Continental is going to break my shit again I said".

They assured me "que no".

Wrapped it in giant plastic bag and placed fragile stickers all over my bag.

I felt helpless!

I returned to the US with two bottles of the Centenario XX. They both weathered the ride (Continental to Las Vegas then United to Boston). The real challenge will be returning with two bottles of some fairly expensive cabernet. I plan to bubble wrap them and place them in the cardboard container in which I brought the XX.

Zacapa 23 - Aged for 23 years, this rum is aged like no other rum in the Caribbean. After distilling is complete they rest the rums in American oak barrels. The altitude where they age, in Bodegas is 7,500 feet above sea level where the weather is cool and limits the loss of a considerable amount of rum that naturally evaporates during the aging process. In some countries the lost product is called the (Angels Share). This allows the rum to have the aging of 23 years. Many experts consider this rum to be the best in the world.

So other than the Duty Free shops at the airport.
Where in SJ can I find a store with a good rum selection?

Best selection I have seen so far is Auto Mercado in San Pedro, just west of the mall.

I concur that Zacapa 23 is indeed an excellent rum, but I would perhaps
rate it a close second to Demerara El Dorado from Guyana. I just tried the El Dorado '21'. I had to special order it from a liquor store here in Florida ($70 a bottle). It is probably best for sipping. I prefer the El Dorado '15', as it is a little smoother. I'd also place Zaya from Guatemala in the top five. An excellent rum!

I just paid $58 for 2 bottles of Ron Zacapa 23 on my way home from SJ today and I just tried it. I believe its one of the best rums i have ever tasted. Puts my jamaica rum's to shame.

The best three are: 1. Run Viejo de Caldas (it is rum form Colombia) 2. Rum Centenario. 3. Rum Flor de Cana (it is made in Nicaragua)
