As I have stated before, asking for what I want/need is not one of my strong points, but here goes......

As many of you know I have been attempting to give help to the orphanage near the SL. Much thanks to all who have been so generous.

Several CRT members have asked for some sort of on-line way to donate. I am still just in the stone age when it comes to web sites.

My questions are:

Is there enough interest from members to start a web-site for donations?

If there is enough interest, can anyone from CRT help me with the design and setting up a way to donate. I will do what is required to start a bank account, or whatever. There are five members in CRT that have stepped up and agreed to monitor this account, as a sort of board. This will hopefully ensure to all that there money will be going to the K*ds.

Should there be enough interest, I will even be willing to pay a local web company to set it up, should no one be able to help from the board. If there is not enough interest, I don't want to waste money that I could donate to the K*ds.

Also, please remember that you can leave donations at the SL, and Johanna will make sure they are given to the K*ds.

Anyone with any input in this, please PM me with your ideas. I am open to all ideas, even telling me that there is no interest. I will stop posting about this.

Health & happiness to all....

I would like a way to donate on-line. I am too lazy/unmotivated to do much in this regard myself but would be happy to give up 1-2 ZB sessions to help. ON-line donations would be great.

Good luck Santa's Bro. You are doing good work.

I think it's a good idea. I don't think we need a whole website dedicated to this; all that's needed is to open a Paypal account for this purpose and then a single webpage with a direct payment link through Paypal. Maybe some photos of the orphanage, info about the orphanage, etc.

It's all fairly simple to put together.

Nobody is forced to donate or even look at it if they don't want to. I think it's a good idea for those who are interested in participating.

Maybe just a web page with a paypal link and info about the yearly fundraiser, SL, etc., pretty sure you could set it up and host it for free. (Google page creator) But I'm just thinking out loud, sure some geeks here can be of more help...

Hey Steve
I agree most with Orange, a simple pay pal account is enough, Maybe admin would allow a sticky for those of us interested in helping. You could post updates news about the K*ds and what and how the donations were used. Maybe even a running contest for the highest contributor where they get a free session from whatever lady is willing to contribute say a dinner date with a happy ending. If no interest from the gals maybe pay for a session from ZB or NF out of the proceeds. Maybe even ask the sponsors of crt to get involved. Good Luck.

For the purposes of collecting donations from CRT members, a paypal account would probably be fine. Paypal offers tools that generate the code that would allow you to post donation links in messages on this board similar to the vacation tickers like the one below. Just an easy way to collect money from the various member fundraisers like the Fantasy Nascar one in VIP. You could even just let funds accumulate in the paypal account until you have enough to cover whatever the current need is, whether it's tables and chairs or toys for Christmas.

If you plan to expand your fundraising efforts outside the CRT community, then you might need something more complex. But thats your call.

I do think it would be a good idea to post some pictures of the orphanage occasionally.

The early returns are 66 percent against setting up something to help the K*ds. The early exit pole shows with 18 votes, 12 are against, and 155 views. The group is speaking, or in a majority of the case not speaking. I understand that it is my passion, and not others. I will continue to donate when I am in town.

I will discuss this with a CRT member tonight that wishes to help. At this point, taking the early results into account, I am leaning towards the 3 votes to stop posting about this.

Thanks to all that have donated, or will donate. We will possibly make a difference in some K*ds lives. Also, thanks to all that voted, your input has made it more clear to me. I appreciate your input, whether positive, or those who wish I go no farther.

Posting this has helped me personally step into my fear of asking for what I wanted. It is not something I am comfortable doing. While the results appear to be against what I would want, I am better within myself today for posting my want, even though it appears that my desire is not what the group wants. I am good with that, and happy to have stepped into my fear.

I'm glad that I found CRT, Costa Rica, and you men. CR, and the members of CRT, have made me a happier person. Thanks!!

Health & happiness to all...

Steve - Santas Bro

Steve,
As I read the question, it asked if there should be a website for this effort. I don't personally feel it's necessary to have one simply to collect donations, paypal would suffice. However, that doesn't mean I'm not in favor of the effort, nor should you take it to mean I don't support it. Should you choose to set up a website, I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

I also don't think you should assume the majority of people viewing the thread, without comment, are opposed to the idea. It's just as likely they agree with other previously posted opinions and didn't feel like adding "Me Too".

From what I've read in the other threads, many (if not most) of the members applaud your efforts. Those that don't can simply not read these threads.

Steve, I agree a sticky would be great because then we could keep all of the posts on one thread so that those who aren't interested don't feel so "worn out" over it.
Also, I think a website that could be updated and take payments would be a good idea. We could start with paypal for now and then add the site later , after CRT has been able to see some before/after pics of the orphanage and the difference we've made.
This reminds me ... I will post the Nascar challenge on our league page just in case it wasn't seen by all the players.
Lastly, I think the last couple of posters were correct. Alot of people will vote no for the website simply because they are content with paypal.
Talk to ya soon buddy!

Costa Rica, the place that many of us love, is perfect for donations. They routinely ask and receive gifts from neighbors around the world. An example is the "Taiwan Bridge" and no military and the recent dept forgiveness from the US as well as much more. I gave a little at Christmas and it went a long way.

I think many CRT bros want to and will donate but just don't want to talk about it much. They would rather talk about ticas , nicas, colombianas, etc.

Hey,

This is awesome, and I'd like to help. PM me please with further details. I'd prefer to be hands-on, but I can also help financially.

As luck would have it, I will arrive in CR on 27 Feb. In my case I can drop by the SL to make a donation there at some point during my trip. Still, a paypal deal would likely garner more money for the orphanage.

One of the reasons for my not posting about wanting help earlier was my fear of "looking stupid". It appears that I have accomplished that. The term Web-site was apparently not a good choice. There have been many who would like to donate to other than a web-site. So I will forge on.

Since I am still in the stone age about computers, I had no idea how this could happen. Since I posted, several of the members have PM'd (was that a correct use of an apostrophe? :) ) me, and are in the process of setting up a sticky (with Admin1's approval), with a link to PayPal for donations. As more happens, I will post it very clearly marked so those that wish to pass will not have to read it.

Thank you for your input. I agree (with talking about poosey) and have heard (read) what you, and others, have wanted with their wishes to stop posting about this. In the future I will make any post title that I start be very clear it is about donations so that those who choose not to read it can just pass it by. Once that the sticky, or whatever is set up, you will have the choice not to read about this again, unless you choose to. There will be follow ups about the amount given, pictures, and what was given. We are in the process of setting up five members to over see the account, and a majority will be needed to disburse funds. From what I've heard PayPal takes a little less than 3 percent of the money, so 97 percent , or so, will go to the K*ds. I see this all happening on one thread so only those that choose to will read it.

I feel a bit stupid this morning, but since it didn't kill me I must be better for it. 8) I appreciate every one's input

Health & happiness to all.....

My post was to help, not anything else. I believe this is a site to support fellow brothers that for some reason or another are now visiting or living in Costa Rica . Whether it be ED questions or sections such as the one concerning a way to give a little charity without being taking advantage of. My thought is to set it up and we will be surprised how much money is there come December. :D
