I think PR summed it up best, "Once you've become an alcoholic, how long do you remain an alcoholic?."
I am sure many try to leave the life, but the quick $ brings them back. As such, I would say the average chica remains a hooker longer than 3 years over the course of her life.
I would say the same about the dancer(s) at my local gentlemen's club who proves Chris Rock was going to the wrong champagne room.

It may seem this way to us because we see the same girls every trip and we can't figure out how they are going to make ends meet without selling poosie. Very few actually want to be a part of this and quite a few get out and stay out. Their lives and situations change just like ours do. People all over the world accept lower wages all the time in order to raise K*ds, stop commuting, or satisfy some other need.
Drug addiction and Alcoholism are completely different. If it was so impossible to get out of the p4p bizz we would all be seeing plenty of hags in their 40' & 50's hanging around the bars offering sex 10 or 20 bucks.

Have to disagree with you here as I think drug and alcohol addiction is an excellent metaphor for the life of a prostitute. I have no doubt your mongering experience far exceeds mine, but I have a close friend who has been in the biz in the US for 20+ years, and have been on the SJ scene for close to 2 years now, so permit me to share my observations. I've spoken with a number of girls about how they got started in the game. And they seem to all have a similar story (Maybe it's taught to them at University Del Rey

):
They find themselves struggling for money. It goes on for a while. They have Babi*s to feed and all day all they can think about is getting money. They see the other girls in the neighborhood who are putas and they resent them. They deride them and laugh at them... Yeah the putas have money but they are without respect. But one day, maybe a particularly stressful day, a friend tells them about the Del Rey and the easy money and they dream what it would be like to have MONEY. All the have to do is have sex...that's it right? Finally, they are willing to consider the possibility of hooking. But it's wrong, no? Daddy would be mortified! But I have Babi*s to feed. And so begins the rationalization that will soothe any moral objections they may have. So they make a date with their experienced friend and they go.
The turn-out: The first night at the DR. Her friend's been there and knows the scene and takes care of her. She's shaking. She's nervous. One girl relayed the story thus:
This black guy took to me to the Melia Cariari and when we finished he gave me 300 dollars. I couldn't believe it! 300 dollars! I was so happy. I sent money to my father in Nicaragua, I helped my mother put a roof on my house, I gave money to everyone.
The joy, the rush, of having that money in her hand was so intense, that she was now "hooked" on hooking. I imagine it is similar to how drug addicts describe the first time they shoot up heroin. It's such an incredible high that they will spend their life trying to find a way to re-experience it.
Now she could have took her 300, paid her debts, put it in the bank, considered this a one shot deal and gotten on with her life... But why? The money is available every day. For many girls its just too much of a temptation.
But our girl is not addicted to money...she's addicted to the EASINESS of getting the money. That is the problem...and it is not easily solved.
How do get a girl to stop working the Rey? How do you get a girl to go back and work in a shop for 20 bucks a day? After pulling 100s a night?
Ha Ha! Good luck. How do you get an alcoholic to stop drinking? Ha Ha Good luck. In AA they tell you alcoholism is a terminal disease and you need to take it one day at a time. You will always be an alcoholic. When you are not using, you are in "recovery". I believe we can apply this concept to prostitution, and in this sense the "Wiseman" is correct. "Once a puta, always a puta" They may be off the market for a time, or for the rest of their life maybe, but they always know they can go back if necessary. The stronger and brighter and more ambitious of them will find other lucrative ways of obtaining money, other careers, etc, but there's no need to give up "hooking" completely. We all know the pecking order at the DR. Who are the queen putas? The bartenders. They have great jobs AND cherry pick from the clientele. If an opportunity arises for an easy score, why not? Many will find men that they will engage in a genuine emotional relationship with, just like any "civilian" would, but the guy better provide the "EASY" money she is used to or she'll be hooking on the side. The other CRT saying, "You can't turn a hooker into a housewife" I tend to disagree with. Not likely maybe, but if a working girl genuinely has feelings for you, and you satisfy her need/addiction to dinero, I believe you can keep her exclusive (for the most part

)at least for a while.
Do chicas take a look at the scene and decide Naw it's not for me?
Do chicas try it for a while and decide they can't live with themselves and stop?
Do chicas get ill, possibly get an STD and drop out of the scene?
Do chicas get FOUND OUT by their families and husbands (because many many many of these girls do this in secret...even from husbands)?
Yes. Lives evolve in an infinite variety of permutations...por supuesto. So in actual fact any one individual puta's working life can go from one hour to one lifetime.
But don't let that easy money hook ya baby!!!
