Man this scares the fok out of me. I've flown that bucket of bolts Airbus at least twice if it is the one that has the 2-4-2 seat configuration. I like it because it is big and spacious however knowing that it blew a hydraulic line or pump and then dumped all the fluid half way down the runway scares the bejesus out of me.

Is that series really from the 70s?? I'm thinking mid to late 80s. Once airborne it has always flown well although taxiing have always felt the mechanical movements.

Yes very true first A300 flew in 1972 but that is newer than

USAF C-141 first flew in 1963

USAF C-5 1968

Boeing 737 1967

Boeing 747 1969

All still going strong.

Said it before and will say it again fleet age is a marketing tool not an operational measurement of reliability and safety.

I have been stuck with AA before. I sat in the airport most of the day before someone came out to tell me the flight with finally leave about ten hours later. They never bothered to tell me my connecting flight had been delayed too so I was stuck in Miami. If they had I could have made it home.

I don't fly AA anymore because last time was stuck in CR I flew Continental. They just stuck me on a plane the following day. The people taking AA said the airline told them it wasn't their fault so they where not responsible. After hearing what they went though with AA I never want to fly them again.

I bought my ticket on American to CR a week ago. I got an $100 rebate for picking the two stop flight. So Vegas to San Jose with one hour stops in Dallas and Miami. All for $300. I can live with a little delay for that price.
American will never be as bad as Spirit.

I like American Airlines fine, but I haven't flown them in a long time. I am sorry the legendary Don Gordo was stranded by them. I fly Spirit everywhere I can, gets you to point A to point B. Kinda like my Honda Civic.

there was a post about if you were under 40 you wouldn't understand. I think the quality and experience of commercial airline service would probably have been in there too, even though I never got to experience that period of air travel due to my age.

If AA screws my like it did DG I will be incensed.

I have not flown AA for about 5 years since they completely screwed up one of my trips. Well...I got a good price and a FLL departure so I bought a ticket for this trip. FLL to SJO was uneventful but SJO to FLL did not happen at all. They cancelled the flight to FLL and put me on the next flight to MIA. That flight was cancelled as well and now as I sit in the SJO airport waiting for yet another attempt at MIA I have made the decision that I will NEVER use this shit airline for SJO travel again.

All of that aside , I had a great trip as usual and I will be back in Feb on TACA

Ditto...concur

Never had any problems flying or losing any baggage on AA. However, living in the DFW area AA is the only airline that flys non stop. Mr LV said he paid $300 for his RT and on my last trip which I paid $547RT I sat next to a guy who paid $299RT from NY. So AA really sticks to the customers that fly DFW-SJO RT

Has been kind of an ongoing saga with AA's monopoly in the Dallas area. Ask RBC100 and HolaB, They have been proponents of some competition from DFW for some time now.....

Although I am a beneficiary of the competetive market in Chicago and usually pay between $249 and $309 on Taca Round Trip (unfortunately we still have no non-stop options) I do feel for my friends and brothers in that ridiculous situation.

I also know many who fly Taca out of JFK and LAX for similar prices to mine... You guys are 1/2 the distance and paying almost double our costs unless you find the occassional special..

PHRICKIN NUTS !!!!

I went looking for Taca the other day but they only offer to a limited number of cities. Nothing flying out of Boston. I used to pay $400-$600 until the search engines improved enough to allow flexible date searches. Looks like I can get $350 pretty steady now. The key is getting flights which leave on say a Tuesday instead of a Thursday or Friday.

Instead of cheaper I might go for the non-stop next time around. It was a nightmare coming back through Houston this time around. Everyone's flight was late and security just laughed at us and made us wait in the huge line. I ran as fast as I could all around the airport only to end up waiting an hour on the plane because we had no pilot and the toilet was broke. The problem is I have to go through immigration, baggage claim, customs, baggage checking, security, and ticket check. That is a lot to do when no one in the airport cares if you make the last plane out or not. I would rather just do it at the end of my trip.

I received the following from AA today:

It's completely realistic for our valued customers to rely on the scheduled departure and arrival of their flights. For that reason, we were disappointed to learn that flight 972 was delayed on January 23 and we wanted to take the opportunity to apologize to you for the disruption of your travel plans.

I realize that our expression of regret is of small consolation in light of the time you spent waiting in San Jose for your flight to depart. I hope you will accept the addition of 7,000 Customer Service Bonus miles to your AAdvantage® account as a more tangible apology. You should see this mileage adjustment in your account very soon.
We appreciate your understanding during the delay of your flight and hope to have your continued business. We will do our best to provide a smooth trip the next time you fly with us. We'll look forward to the opportunity.

Sincerely,

B. J. Russell
Customer Relations
American Airlines

Somehow, I don`t think that I will be using their 7000 miles very soon.

Tangible apology..   PUHLEASE !!!!!!!

a $2-300 voucher or something similar would be tangible for THAT aggravation......less than 1/4 of a free ticket (I am assuming a 30K voucher) is very FAR cry from tangible IMHO.

This would trigger a nice little reply letter to the President of AA, of course cc'ing Mr Russell of Customer Relations informing them in a very professional way exactly what they can do with their 7000 miles and inform him of his lost future business.

Not that this would do any good other than to vent frustration

pretty much. you need to be injured or killed to get anything resembling a sincere apology from an airline these days. not that they are the only ones that can give a shit less about us, just one of the more obvious.

The first time that I really complained to AA when they phucked up, they gave me a $ 75 voucher. The next time, I told them to stick their voucher up their ass, and included, in my response, my next two trip's itineraries to CR on other airlines. Never again on AA thru MIA, and that was 3 years ago. Speak with your wallet
