Fuzebox, to answer your question about not being a paid member, and others could probably do a better job of answering, but:

1. Do you think this site exists without any cost? and where do you think the money to pay these costs come from?

2. Do you not benifit form the wealth of info located here, and if so do you not feel that you are indebted to the site?

3. Do you not have a desire to be able to access the parts of the site that only paying members can access?

4. Living here do you not wish to take advantage of the many discounts available to members? Going to SB 4-5 times a year would more than pay the fee.

5. Many members do resent non paying members evpressing controversal opinions.

6 Where would you go for info if this site didnot exist because all of us took advantage of the info without paying.

Admin 1 devotes a trimendous amount of time and effort to making this a very valuable and succesful site and without paying members it would not exist, so PLEASE PAY and take advantage of all of the site.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to pay for the membership?

If you like coming here and foresee coming here regularly in the future, you should just pony up and get the lifetime membership fro $100. Certainly the discounts will add up over time and you are doing the right thing. 12 trips to ZB and it has paid for itself, not to mention all the hotel and food discounts. I don't know why any regular monger visiting Costa Rica would not do it.

If mongering here is not something you see yourself doing regularly in the future, or if you are planning your first trip, it might be a wash if you don't come back. If you pick the right hotel, eat and drink and hang out at Sportsmans Lodge, and do a lot of ZB, the $40 annual can easily pay for itself on your trip.

I will pay for my continued membership in the next couple of weeks as it is about to expire, but I left my card at ZB three trips ago and have not bothered to get a replacement.

Call me stupid but I'm not the type to participate in this sort of discount program for two reasons. For example - think of those discount cards you can get from Kroger grocery stores or Speedway gas stations. Every time you use that card, the establishment has an electronic record of exactly what you bought, when, and where. I can just imagine vast stores of information at ECS Choicepoint and big mainframe computers tracking our individual spending habits and learning huge volumes of information about us.

I don't really like having an electronic record of paying to sign up for a mongering site and knowing that there is a possability that credit card information could maybe be used to identify who I am on CRT.

I realize this is a stretch and that paranoia alone is not sufficient to keep me from using the CRT card but what turned me off to using it was knowing that every time I handed it over, I divulge my CRT handle and email address and many of these establishments will have my home address, passport number, etc. Imagine that information falling into the hands of a pissed off chica.

Also I like to write detailed trip reports and I don't want chicas getting on CRT and reading what I write about them. I like to fly under the radar.

All this aside I have learned so much from this board and saved a lot of time and money just by taking the very good advice here. I figure I have an obligation to help pay the bills as well as to give back as much information as I can.

Brother, you are paranoid.

They are not tracking your transaction with CRT!!!! This is a very simple deal. You show the card, the vendor gives the discount. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing else going on!!!!

CRT is not involved in any way shape or form in tracking what you are doing and when or where. There is no bar code on your membership card, more importantly YOU DO NOT HAVE A MEMBERSHIP NUMBER ON THE CARD WITH WHICH TO TRACK YOU.

I like flying under the radar too. I have never shown my card to a chica. I never even tell them I am CRT. Why would I do that?

So just chill. This is Costa Rica, things are simple down here. Buy your card.

1 more thing, if you are SO concerned, buy it in CASH while in town at ZB or SL. all you need is an e-mail address if that, mine just has my handle and NOTHING else per request. Yu can also ask ZB to hold it for you in between trips as they keep a file of CRT cards for us gratis.

Come on, I asked why "non-paying member" was considered a form of insult, not for the benefits of membership. Obviously membership is valuable to most the users of this site

3 years of trial and error on my own, as you can see by the join date I only recently found this site (and after I got engaged, no less).

I glanced at the list of discounts out of curiosity, most of them don't apply to me, and I'm not going to pay for a 10% off coupon at a few restaurants I rarely eat at



THIS would be the only reason I would buy a membership, if I could call shit like I see it without ridiculous responses

FB, it's always a non-paying member that comes along causing trouble and talking trash (like PV29) so maybe that's the connection.
I could care less who joins or not but do think more sections should be moved to the VIP-only area, especially the Girls Reviews and MP sections.
