Only about $22 over what you should pay in CR. And for a hotel that will give you a hard time about your "guest" as well.

What we "should" pay? Is there an official hotel rate in CR?

Different people like different level of hotels. Some are ok with budget places, while others prefer something more upscale.

$62 is actually less than some Super8s I've stayed in. :D

I prefer modern-type full-service business-class hotels. For my Feb. trip though I'm spoiling myself for my birthday by staying at the ZB for five nights; "full-service" takes on a new meaning there! ;)

Thanks guys. Wasn't sure with all the commotion about the hotel's chica policy, if mentioning CRT would help or hurt my chances of actually getting a reservation there. Not so easy getting a room there. Appreciate the help.

Is the Presidente still a NOT charging a Tica Fee for CRT members?

IIRC last year I stayed there, there was no Tica Fee for CRT members, however the Ticas did have to comply with a "dress code."

Presidente has a dress code , a one chica policy  but they have never, never, never ever had a chica fee. :D

Thanks for the info MrLV, I'm a retired buget traveler and would like to pass on the savings I get from the hotel rooms to the ticas, mps, & tours etc.
Could you post some hotels that can be had for $40.00 it's my first trip and would love to explore all of what Costa Rica has to offer at reasonable costs

There are a few:
-Morazan (less than $50)
-Castillo (w/ $38/night CRT-VIP discount)
-Freebird (special $30/night for CRT-VIP members only thru 2/5/08, $49 (-15%) thereafter)
-Nuevo Johnson
-Amistad (I think it's in that range with CRT-VIP discount)

If you get a VIP membership, you can take advantage of all these (and many more) discounts.

Why are you guys still booking at this hotel. I thought the dress code sounded absurd enough. Those prices Orange posted are insane. The standard rooms haven't changed since I paid $45 for them years ago.

Hattrick.
I stay at the Presidente for the service the location and the fact that every employee knows me by my first name. I can buy my exit stamp tax in the hotel lobby. It is as easier to meet business clients in the News Cafe or in the Hotel lobby. The Hotel also has a conference room on the second floor you can reserve.I have never had a problem with bringing back any chicas ever in the last 4 years YMMV.

The Presidente is a very nice hotel in a great location and I love to stay there. Yes the dress code policy s*cks and I had to buy a chica a pair of jeans to get her in. But I will still return just won't spend all my nights there.

My sentiments exactly... I just booked for Feb. 14th and will also enjoy a complimentary night courtesy of the Prez because of an accounting screwup last July... I'd rather be at SL with the crew but on short notice this was my third choice with Amon/Clarion always my second... 8) 8) 8)

Admin, shouldn't this be on a sticky in the VIP discount section?

I was wondering what the VIP rates are for a summer trip, and the home page didn't have anything there either.

Thanks.
