Icantstayaway,
After reading your 2 posts here, I am really wondering just why you are living here!!
Ok, I'll explain it for you. Unlimited , unspoiled, beautiful girls and year round 75 degree weather.

Sounds like you are living a misserable life in so much fear every time you step out of your house.

But if you are going to live here, you should NOT BE paranoid and you sound like you are.
Thank you for your concern. I will try to clear up confusion that you may have. Being alert, street-smart and taking precaution does not make me miserable or paranoid. It makes me and my company content and secure.

I to have lived here for a while (1 and 1/2 years) and have been coming here for many years. I to have had no serious problems,
Other's have had serious problems and minor problems.
Many, many muggings and "grab and runs" occur here daily and most go unreported.

I to am well aware that I could be robbed the next time I walk out the door just as I could if I were living in the States, I to realize there is a problem with crime here just as almost anywhere in the world. What I tell newbees here is really NO different than what I would tell someone new to the small north Al. town where I worked before moving here (actually that was one of the most dangerous and violent places I have ever seen). I may be mugged the next time I go into the gulch, just as I might be mugged if I went into downtown USA city. BUT I REFUSE TO LIVE MY LIFE IN FEAR!
You seem to have a constant theme of associating cautious and safe behavior and practices with "fear" , "paranoia", and "misery" .

I do not have a car;
I do have a car and have rented cars here in CR in the past. My rental car was broken into the second day I had it. I have left all kinds of different cars all over ATL so many nights and never had one broke into. This is a big example of the security difference between CR and the USA. Anything here that is not behind bars or bolted down will be stolen.
This does not make me miserable , paranoid, or fearful. I am simply more careful as to where I park now and wish to advise other CRT bros about this so they can learn from my mistake instead of having to learn for them self after being lulled into a false sense of security by people like you.

I walk or ride the bus everywhere I go here (taxi if very late at night and the bus has stopped running) I am careful and always aware of what is going on around me.
By your own words in your post, you wrote that anyone that is " careful and aware" must be "miserable , paranoid , fearful" and shouldn't probably live here.
No one is stopping you from walking all over the city any hour of night so you can be happy , live without fear and not be paranoid. I really don't think this is good advice for other's that are happy paying a few dollars to take a taxi at night.
