I am pleased to be able to say that Bill and Johanna of the Sportsmen's Lodge are offering their support in the effort to raise funds for the orphanage near the Sportsman Lodge.

Thank you for all the support that has been given in our efforts to help these unfortunate Ch*ldren to date. Our first year we were able to purchase over $700.00 in supplies and toys.

Those who wish to donate, can leave their money at the front desk of the Sportsmen's Lodge. If you leave your change (also please leave some for the room service), or $5.00-$10.00 per visit (not per day) we will have a great amount of money saved by year's end. From my visit last week, we were able to start with approximately $70-$80. With much thanks to one member (if he PM's me I would like to use his name), who donated $60.00 on the spot. This money will be put into a bank account, and if necessary Johanna will start a foundation to account and distribute the funds. Let's hope it gets to that point.

Their current need is to upgrade the dining area. It is pretty depressing guys. Johanna will work on a budget with the contractors that are currently building the new wing of the SL. She will be able to get some excellent work done, in conjunction with the SL addition. I have seen the facility, and the face of the lady we gave the school supplies to. It was a cross between shock, and amazement. We were able to give all 72 Ch*ldren a complete set-up of school supplies. This is something they probably have never had before. Let's show them what we can really do.

I am also working with other CRT members on an on-line way of donating, and the possibility of a fund raiser once of twice a year. Your input is desired, and appreciated. I am doing this as a CRT gift, with Admin1's blessing. My name should never appear, it will always be from all of us at CRT. I want nothing for myself, except the belief that we are helping poor Ch*ldren who have been dealt a bad hand through no fault of their own.

While some may consider me a fool, I've been called worse, and probably today. If we have an effect, and change the life of one Ch*ld, it will have been all worth it. I believe with the many wonderful men of CRT we can make a big difference in many Ch*ldren's lives. Your few dollars a year, should you care to donate will make a huge difference.

Another possibility is bringing down some Ch*ldren's clothing. As long as it's clean, with no rips, I'm sure that some of these unfortunate Ch*ldren would love to have another change of clothes.

I have been blessed on my trips to CR, not only by the locals, but also by the CRT members that I now consider my friends, and the many laughs that I get from the board daily.

I will update you with posts on occasion about how we are doing, and as a reminder to leave a little at the SL. Please help if you can.............

Health & happiness to you and yours:

Steve - Santas Bro

Here is a idea, If you could set up some type of Pay Pal account using the orphanage name or something like that. I'm just thinking out loud. I'm new here so I don't know if this would fly or not with the others. I'll be coming over in April. If I get around to my friends and family I'll see about getting some clothes. Is there a size your in need of?

Gentlemen. we are all very lucky in so many ways and I'm sure you realize that our excursions to Costa Rica are from our discretionary funds...

Ch*ldren who are without any family, proper parental influence/upbringing, or any feeling of security in this world deserve much more in life as we all have been very fortunate in so many ways...

Especially anyone who has an adoptive Ch*ld can relate to the plight of these Ch*ldren and should openly support this worthwhile endeavor...

Just make a small donation, BUT ask your friends to do the same...

Great idea Steve, keep up the good work...

This thread was pointed out to me by a member and, to him, I say thanks.

Anyway, I would like to offer a challenge to the members here by agreeing to match donations, up to $500, that are made between now and the Super Bowl. If the money is all collected at the game, that would be great. If San Diego wins, I will double my matching of funds to $1,000. I have done matching like this before and it has worked wonderfully.

Have a Great Day,

Dave

Thank you so much for your support. I hope that all who will be there for the Superbowl will take you up on this. It is my intention to have a system on-line for donations soon.

Also several brothers have asked about the physical address. The Orphanage is located in:

Barrio Aranjuez Ave 7 between Street 21 and 23, the name is Hospicio de Huerfanos de San Jose, phone # 221-0619. Should you care to donate directly, please call first, or see Johanna at the SL. If you care to donate money, at the present please use the Sportmens Lodge. We will have control over what the money is used for, and can make sure that all monies are given directly for the Ch*ldren for their most current need.

I should also know soon if your used clothing, in excellent condition, clean, with no rips might also be an option.

I am humbled by the response from all

Steve - Santas Bro

One thing Johana mentioned to us while we were at the orphanage ,is that there are a couple of rooms that are in bad need of new furniture. She suggested that we might even want to concentrate on fixing up that one room and having some new chairs & tables built . From what we saw, there was a definate need for this soon.

One thing that I failed to mention. With having to start a foundation, we need a name. Something with CostRicaTicas in it.

Come on all you smart, funny dudes, something clean, but clever. With all the smart a** remarks we make to each other, this should be a breeze.

Health & happiness to all..

Yeah, I recommend "The Santa's Bro Foundation" because through the help we can provide we can all be Santa's Bro for a little while.

I disagree on adding the CRT name to this foundation.

I love the idea of supporting the orphanage in every way possible and cannot wait to donate and help them with their needs.

However... our name could bring unwanted attention. Just because we have the best intentions does not mean that AM Costa Rica won't rip them to shreds and humiliate them. This may dry up other funds, maybe government, church, or public funds that are going to the Ch*ldren.

This should not have our name and should remain anonymous! I rather like the idea of letting Sportsmens be the name sake. Bill could attribute the donations to his enthusiastic patrons.

The Santas Bro Foundation is a perfect name. Let's leave the place better than we found it!

Awesome Stuff!!! Many of us here have the means and altruism to make a substantial difference but lack the effective conduit to transform dollars into impact, instead of waste. Your leadership in matching kind intentions with tangible actions enables us to make a difference, and is rather inspiring.

No need for the self-deprecating “…some may consider me a fool”, though, when we are all behind you walking in step.

My two colones…
