The good folks at Spirit must truly be high. At current they are $250 more than American and $200 more than Continental from Las Vegas for my Feb. trip. Paying alot more for terrible service and extra for luggage on top of it? Lets hope we hear of Spirit shutting down soon.

Foxcrusader, trust me, take Delta.

You are very likely to miss your connection in Florida on Spirit. Likewise they have a bad reputation for customer service. If you miss your connection or your luggage is lost you suffer.

The Delta flights are non stop so your luggage is never lost. Also it is four hours once you take off. Pay the extra and rest assured.

On my last trip to CR I flew Spirit. My 2.5 hour flight took me 15 hours. FLL was a disaster. Had to go through customs, slow because of all the arriving flights. Once through customs I had to get my luggage, carry it through the airport and recheck it to my final destination. Very , very, very long lines and lots of confusion. And the cop with the dog was a real asshole.

I understand the need for airport security but why do they have to be such dicks?

Next time I will pay more to avoid this type of service.

Too bad MartinAir is no longer going to fly from Orlando to San Jose, they were awsome.

I have flown Spirit to CR from ATL and it has been just fine every time. It's well worth it to save a couple hundred bucks imo. Who knows, this next trip I might end up singing a different tune but so far, so good.

MRLV;
I can't agree with you re: Spirit shutting down. Their presence at FLL has forced AA to add more flights there and at a price I like. I am hoping Spirit's alleged expansion to Columbia (the Clam advised it begins next month but I have not verified) drives the price down on AA flight to MDE (Spirit is not flying to MDE but supposedly another city).
I may be mistaken, and if so please forgive me in advance, but I think Spirit only flies to SJO from FLL. If so, IMHO, it makes little sense from Las Vegas to fly Spirit, pay for your checked baggage, and connect all the way down here in South Florida when American can route you (I assume) thru DFW or Continental through Houston.

Fox; if I was in ATL I would wait until Delta runs a special and fly them. I have not had any bad experiences with Spirit (but for long lines) nor have any of my pals in S. Fla (but for one on one occasion) but I have heard of trouble when someone from ATL tries to connect in FLL with Spirit. Whatever you do, best of luck. :D

Spirit does not have any direct flights from Las Vegas to CR, unforunately.
American transits most CR bound flights in Miami. Continental through Houston. So MIA or FLL, it is 6 of one or half dozen of the other. MIA seems to be a much better airport for a layover, imo. FLL has no place to eat worth mentioning and is poorly designed.I would try doing a direct from LA, but at current the most direct flight still has a long layover, worse than flying to MIA.

FLL is a good airport for me cause I live here, but it sucks once you get through security. No smoking and the bars suck (and I include terminals 2 and 4 in that). The Jet Blue terminal is marginally better with regards to the bar. MIA would be more entertaining and I now see why you are looking at Spirit. :idea:

:idea: Also, while the Clam had a ticket booked to Vegas on Spirit last July (I flew Delta- was meeting some pals from NJ out there and the Clam thought one day it would be fun to join) which he cancelled, I have no firsthand knowledge of Spirit domestically, but would select Delta for ATL or LAS and consider Jet Blue or AA (out of MIA) to NYC. Or Continental to EWR. I would be curious to hear from guys who have flown domestically on Spirit, cause a buddy of mine flew it from BdL-FLL (route may have been discontinued) in 2001 or 2002 and was not happy. Then I heard from the Clam that his $49 round trip Spirit Flight to NYC was a zoo last summer and I would not have enjoyed. And TC's pal out of ATL only made it as far as FLL with a room reserved and a chica hand selected waiting. I figured only guys in So. Fla flew Spirit to SJO. Guess I may have miscalculated. :oops:
