Some other points I agree with: The A300 is apiece of crap. I'll take anything Boeing ever made over the latest French offering and be happy.

Spoken like true NW homey. Home of Boeing Aircraft Company. :P  :P

All right! An opportunity to enlighten ID! Boeing is based out of Chicago. Much of the manufacture is spread all over but Seattle does still have an airport named in their honor, Boeing Field.

Even you recognize how disingenuous that statement is.

I have only used AA to SJO. I am looking at an April trip and Spirits prices are better. But from what you all say about the check-in has me worried. I would connect in FLL on incoming and outgoing flights and the layover is less than two hours on each. Could that be a problem or is it just the initial check-in which may take time? Also am I reading correct that they charge you for checked baggage and that snacks or drinks on the plane must be purchased with a card. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

I haven't seen any new post pro or con lately about Spirit Air, have they cleaned up there act or are there still some problems? AA is not taking any more miles for my Jan 31st trip so I looking toward giving Spirit a try. Price around $460. for the big seat up front, no food though. Anyone else heading down to San Jose out of Fort lauderdale on 1/30 or 1/31?

LK,

The only problem I've ever had with Spirit has been the chaos at the check in counters at FLL. But apparently they are making an effort, and my last trip with them in November went very smoothly. But get there a little early anyway. Remember that "Big Front Seat" means nothing more than that. It is NOT first class in any other way. Originally you got a special check-in line, free food and liquor with the seat, but no more. We just get to spread our fat asses out a bit more, and get to the passport control ahead of the minions.

I've flown Spirit, AA, and MartinAir and had delays on all of them. MartinAir had the best food/service/seats but the flight is pretty short so I really don't care.

On my last trip to CR I flew Spirit. My 2.5 hour flight took 15 hours. FLL was a disaster. Waited for ever in customs, then they made me get my baggage, which I had booked to my final destination, and carry it through the airport and RECHECK it on my next flight. Very, very, very long lines and much confusion. And the Cop with the dog was a real asshole. I will pay more not to have to endure this again.

I understand the need for airport security, but why do they have to be such dicks?

At Spirit they do. I have never met such a rude and unprofessional group of people.
