I agree 100%, especially with the part about there being no right or wrong. Everyone has the right to a good time when they are on vacation and everyone has a different idea of what that is.

Hey I fall into that category. But I find the trip to CR to be kind of a testing ground to get used to dealing with women and gaining more experience. To me, it's more about connecting with a human than connecting with what's under her clothes. That's just an added bonus.

Nonsense. To paint those of us that will not pay cien as some type of pathetic codo is ridiculous. I enjoy the company of women and women seem to enjoy my company as well. How else would I get invited to party at places like Fandango's with several mp ticas, off the clock? Why do I have so many both civilian and pro amigas? By your logic I should be home clipping coupons and trying to but my next ticket to CR on Priceline. All the while plotting my next trip to the area around Clinica Biblica trying to find a tica that will blow me in the alley for $10 or less.

But I am doing none of those things, and neither is the rest of the no-cien group. I am a clean looking and smelling average Joe kind of guy. Quite friendly (most would call me a pretty nice guy). I understand the lingo, and as far as entertainment goes, be it music, dance, movies, etc. I have more in common with most of the women than we have differences. I know the difference between Kumbia Kings, Daddy Yankee, and Fat Joe. Jaguares, anyone? How about Vincente Fernandez or my favorita, Paulina Rubio? There are some, perhaps many, who are simply awed by the whole mongering experience. They are shocked that at thier age and physique a hottie would want to go anywhere with them. They either do not understand the language and/or culture of the young hottie or simply have no confidence. So they deal out that c-note for the hour hoping she will be thier friend, at least for that hour. Any negotiating or friendly banter is too awkward for them, although perfectly normal (and expected) in her culture. Or perhaps it is a guilt complex about being so financially successful, who knows?

So I take a friendly approach, offer up a reasonable amount for her time and services, and there you are. Always for under cien, usually for under $80. If we had a great time I stay in contact via email so we can have more fun together for next trip. All my good sessions I have stayed in contact with, all are looking forward to getting together next trip, and all are under $80. Do as you will.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, but I do stand by my statement. Another way to look at it is some are more focused on time others are more focused on money.

I think we all agree that $100 p/hour is something that the vast majority of us are not interested in.

For those of us that enjoy the company of women, we don't mind giving in a little on the price if we get more time. If I can get 3 hours (or even a TLN) for my $100 then that is a good deal in my book. Why quibble over $20 if what you are looking for is an experience that is going to last an entire evening? You can spend that on one round of drinks.

For others that are not into spending that much time with a chica, it is better to focus on price in the negotiation.

I don't really mean for that analysis to be offensive to anyone. Seems to me it is just common sense.

Personally I don't mind paying the $100 for an hour of satisfying sex, although I do try to get her to commit to more than an hour, let me take photos, etc.

It might be time for a different approach, though as I'm typically ready for her to leave within 5 minutes of the deed being finished.

She is a hot little Mexicana, that is for sure. Looks damn good for her age, got to admit. I have had the privelege of meeting her once, in a hotel lobby in TJ. She was doing a show that night, I was checking in then heading to Zona Norte, for a little show of my own. That`s a bad analogy.... A chica that took $60 to phuck rather than go home broke would be making a lot more than minimum wage but the equivalent of a week`s worth of shop clerk pay for one hour of work. Turning that down and hitting the door with nada for the night could be called stupid, assuming the gringo had had a recent shower.... Now translate that to our economy, if I were off work for the day and my neighbor offered me $240 to ride his lawn mower for an hour I`d seriously consider it. But in any case, you are happy with the cien so I say pay it. If it`s that easy eventually it will be $150 and those of us that object can either stay home or move on to other playgrounds. In the end it`s really not that much of a problem for those of us that have no real marriage to CR or the Del Rey persay...

P.S. Someone mentioned "price fixing." Well I`m sure none are so naive to think the chicas are not having discussions about keeping prices up... Those evil "socialists" have always been in the world and will never go away....

Just wanted to make a quick clarification here... unless i'm overloaded with luggage and duty-free liquor I always take the local bus into town now...and here are the facts...

the bus tarif is 355 colones...about 75 cents, not $2.50

the taxi ride was up to 19 dollars a few months ago...it may be more now.

the bus ride is about 45 miutes, not 1.5 hours...although you do have to make your way to your hotel, a 15 minute walk or short taxi ride to the gulch.

Your savings will buy you a session at any of the lower end MPs...(actually 2 sessions on Calle 6)... or at least make the cien you give your DR chica look more like ochenta.

True, twenty dollars is not much of a savings, and for the majority here just jumping in a cab closing your eyes and nodding off for a half hour until you arrive at the hotel is probably the way to go. But why overpay if you don't have to? If you can make a little effort, you can play your game at a substantially lower cost. Transportation, lodging, drinking and banging beautiful chicas are all available for less than you might think.

And just one thought on "cien"...

I've never gotten a girl off the cien, sessioned with her for less, and then after the session was over, thought, "DAMN! I should have given her the cien. The session would have been so much better if I did!"

I use the CR bus system all the time. I think it is great. Far better than what we have in the states. I have personally used the bus from the airport many times for my day to day travels, and PR is right, it does not take that much longer.

Personally, I would not recommend taking the bus in from the airport upon arrival unless you have an absolute minimal amount of luggage. A backpack is probably fine.

I am guy that walks frequently in San Jose, even at night, and I am not at all afraid of moving around this city by foot (within reason, I know where the bad areas are).

I do have a few rules however, and one of those rules is to not be walking around with anything that might be perceived as having any value. If you are walking with luggage that is a clear signal to the bad guys that you are probably carrying cash and that you may have other valuables.

If you really want to save a few dollars, grab a red taxi out where the bus stop is on the other side of the parking garage. The fair generally runs about $12 on the Maria if my memory serves me right and it will get you right to the door of your hotel.

I have paid cien, frequently...only to realize that I'm being played for a sucker. Yes, cien is a psychological benchmark for many girls, but OTOH a friendly gringo who speaks Spanish, doesn't belittle her to increase his own perceived value and who treats her like a lady and a lover once the fee has been negotiated is as likely to have an excellent time as he who simply, automatically pays cien.
