My advice is to take a lot of US 1 dollar bills with you. It's easier to leave as a tip than searching for a 500 colones coin.

Yep. There is a little desk just before customs you can stop at and buy it. If you miss it, you can go upstairs and purchase it as well. I always grab mine on the way to customs.

Any particular reason why you keep on bumping your own thread? If it that important to you to keep it at the top of the list, why don't you just ask Admin to make it a sticky?

I agree on the one dollar bills.
I usually take a wad and they are appreciated.

Of course my girlfriends appreciate the 100 bills more....and I love my novias.

I think I told some friends that all my girlfriends and my friends girlfriends came from the Park hotel. That is true.

The exchange rate is getting slightly more favorable, about 562 colonies to a a dollar as of March 2009.

Let me update this exchange rate.
As of May 13, 2009 it is 575 Colones to a Dollar.
This helps.
