You mean JR's.......Walking down the hill in front of New Fantasy, at the first street beyond New Fantasy, make a right and walk about a block. JR's is actually located a block to the rear of New Fantasy, in front of the animal zoo.

I took Zebra's recommendation and tried Hamburguesa Factory's ribs. I paid around 3,500 C for half a rack of BBQ ribs with an order of fries. The ribs were much tastier than JRs, but not as meaty. My date, Dayahana from the SL, ordered BBQ chicken that was really delicious...but not as delicious as her  !

For my money, I think I will stick with JR Rib House for a satisfying dinner of BBQ ribs. YMMV.

Between January 16 and February 15, I ate at Hamburguesa Factory about 5 times. The first time I got the ribs. I have to admit, they didn't seem as good as previous trips. After that, I opted for the bar-b-que chicken which I also thought was very good. Several times I ordered a beef steak meal which was very good, and I was given the opportunity to have it prepared the way I like it. None of the meals were over 4K.

Hamburguesa Factory, is in general......a good value for the money.

My two wingmen and I dined at the Rib House earlier this week. I ordered the Full Rack of Pork Ribs for 6,900 C. Since eating there over a year ago, the quality of the meat seems to have improved. The portion was overly generous, the texture was excellent with very little fat, but the taste could still be kicked up a notch or two.
The live entertainment was hopeless, though.
Overall, not a bad feed-bag for less than $14.
Over course...YMMV!

Went there for lunch last week. Didn't disappoint. Overall experience 8/10.

Price, portion,quality very well balanced.

Had the baby(pork) back ribs with corn and fried Yuca, also snatched a few beef ribs from my tica. All was good. Thanks to all CRT's who mentioned this place all these time, for ribs, JR is the place in SJO.

I must bitch about this, not very many ticos know how to get there so initially I had problem locating the place, even knowing it's near the zoo. JR is right at the zoo entrance, to it's right in fact. Most ticos in the area will know where the zoo entrance is if you need to ask for direction in future.

I agree. Their service needs improvement. Last month, a CRT and I went there and were sitting for what seemed like 10 minutes before anybody come over to our table. We finally had to call for a waiter. The food is excelent though, and not too expensive.

FYI-There is a weekday lunch special. I think it's 11am-2pm if I remember correctly and I think the prices are $5 (w/ one side), $6 (two), $7 (three). You pick your meat and then the sides you want.

I have to say that I've been to JR's Ribs twice now, and although I personally think that the food tastes GREAT, the service was well below par, even for CR standards. The staff is just miserable and depressed, and they look at you like they're doing you a favor any time you ask them for something.

My next note is just an observation, which I hope that no one takes as law. The first time me and my lady-friend went there, she got very sick that night, with vomiting and diahrrea that lasted a day and a half.

This next trip, I convinced her that she just got a bug and that it had nothing to do with JR's. Low and behold, the night we ate at JR's we BOTH got sick, with this strange light-headed feeling, almost like being drugged, and with violent runs. I don't want to outright blame the food, but she's 2-for-2 and I'm 1-for-2 in terms of getting ill right after eating there. God, I love the flavor of the food... The corn on the cob is to die for and the babyback ribs taste GREAT, but I have to say based strictly on service and the "getting sick factor", I'll probably never be allowed to take my fiancee there again. But it won't be due to my choice, as again, I think the food tastes GREAT!!

Seems like this place is a poster Ch*ld for YMMV.

My wingman and I were there Tuesday 3/6. Place was about 1/2 full at 9:00. 1 large group of more than 20 in the front, 6-7 other tables full. Service was good even by US standards. The pork ribs were great, fall off the bone tender & juicy, I agree the sauce could use some kick, 1/2 rack was plenty for me with baked potato and coleslaw.

No live entertainment, but CMT videos on the big screen TV. Didn't try the bar, only drinking water after a long day of travel and partying.

Reasonable price, good service, I'll try it again and hope I'm as lucky next time.

I tried the ribs again this trip, and was mildly disappointed. The quality of the meat was OK, but the portion seemed to be half the size of what I got for 7,900 Colones in January. Not many customers in this place at dinner time. I will keep JR's on the radar screen, though.

Peace,
