Does anybody (especially local CRT's) ever go to one for fresh fruit and/or vegetables? One is located in San Jose, about 3 blocks south of Pantera Rosa, down the Paseo de los Estudientes.

It's Saturday mornings until about noon. My girl goes every week for the fruit/vegs for the week. Much fresher than supermarkets and cheaper too. When I'm in town I always go with her and buy fresh, huge pineapples and fresh strawberries. They also have fresh squeezed juices for like 40 cents.

If anybody wants any info on this, PM me.

Never knew of that one Orange but there's also a big one in Rhomoser every Sat. AM that has everything from fruit to seafood. Enjoy

It is only a short walk from Sudamer...I try to go every Saturday am when I am in town.

There is another big feria in Guadalupe every Sat as well.

There are ferias in almost every town in CR on either Fri/Sat/Sun. I usually go to either the one in Escazu or the one in Pavas.

Yes....I would go to one which is about 5 blocks down the hill from the Del Rey. Maybe this is the one you are referring to. Quite a large market, with many varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables. Interesting to see.

Escazu Centro has one every Saturday, right at the central park and church. I buy all my vegetables and fruit there. The prices are very low and it is a nice way to kill time on a Sat. morning.

Possibly the same one, you start out at DR (calle 9) and go south, but it's more than 5 blocks. You have to first go past Pantera Rosa and keep going straight another couple of blocks until the road splits into 2 and you stay on the right and you'll see it.

After thinking about it some more....It prabably is more than 5 blocks down the hill from the Del Rey...possibly 8 or 9 blocks. From what I remember, the market was in the vicinity of an old railroad track and is near some municipal government buildings.

I've never been to Pantera Rosa, so can't relate to this.

I went there with a friend several times who spends a lot of time in San Jose and really knows his way around. He knows many of the vendors at the market, and they would give us free samples. Very tasty and fresh fruit. The watermelons were the "reddest" I have ever seen. Coffee was extremely cheap. We puchased coffee, strawberries, watermelon and other fruit. Makes for a nice Saturday morning outing. Good for people watching.....and of course, have to mention those cute Tica farm girls that have come in from the country with their families to sell their produce.

That one, next to the San Jose Municipal building on avenida 10, is the main commercial produce market for the central valley but you can do retail shopping there also. On Sunday it becomes a flee market.

Funny story from last Saturday.... A vendor (young guy) fell aslpeep right against his table. People walked by, nobody did anything. Around here, he'd wake up to an empty table and money box.

Mercado Central in Cartago is daily. Every fruit and/or vegetable you could want for dirt cheap.

The larger cities have markets that are open every day and operate out of a building. They are different from the ferias which usually are open only one day a week, either Fri., Sat. or Sun., and are set up along a blocked off street or in a vacant field.

The large daily markets are middle men getting their produce from the farmers and selling it while at the ferias the seller is usually the farmer himself.
