Hello Gents,

I have read that this is a non-mongering hotel, but has anyone actually checked a Tica into this hotel as a guest? I am planning a nice two day beach excursion with a "friend" and wanted some decent accomodations away from San Jose.

What I don't need is some dirty looks and shitty service. Everything I've read so far indicates this place is the best, but if she can't come with me there's little point in going.

V,

The Diria is indeed a great hotel....but as you mentioned, definitely NOT chica friendly. However, your situation is somewhat different, as you would be bringing the chica with you as a registered guest. I don't think you would have a problem with attitude, etc., from hotel employees as long as you and the chica are discreet and the chica is presentable in dress and mannerism; by this I mean........she shouldn't look like she just stepped out of the DEL REY. I'm sure you get my drift.

The way the Diria controls "by-the-hour chicas" from coming in, is upon registration at the hotel, every registered guest has a plastic, colored bracelet snapped onto their wrist. You wear this bracelet during the entire stay at the hotel. This way, the hotel personnell know....who belongs and who does not.

I have stayed at the Diria 2 different times with my GF. She was a registered guest and there were no problems....other than the "I hate you Gringo" stares from Ticos.... which you get everywhere. Once we were checked in, we came and went with no problems.

Diria has elegant grounds, great security and a great breakfast buffet. But, I hate the place. It has a large corporate feel, lots of stupid gringa/gringo tourists and makes me feel like I'm in Hawaii or a similar locale. The staff is snooty unlike the fine service orientation that you will find at smaller owner operated hotel.

I like smaller folksy places where guests relax and chat with each other. That is difficult at large corporate hotels.

Try Tamarindo Vista Villages or Pasatiempo or similar.

El,

I really enjoyed my stay at the Diria. The staff was great. After we left Tamarindo, my son discovered he had left an expensive pair of shoes under the bed. :( We went to the hotel's office in San Jose and told them about the shoes. The office lady contacted the hotel and told us that indeed, the maid had found the shoes. They told us they would send the shoes to my son's U.S. address [yeah, right :? ]. Sure enough, about 5 weeks later, the shoes arrived at his home in the U.S.....postage paid.

Who would ever have thought you would get that kind of service anywhere in Costa Rica? :?

Thanks to everyone for the responses. My guest has the girl next door look and at 35 I am not completely out of her age range so hopefully we won't draw too much flak. In 14 days I will know the answer definitively.

Don't worry about it....I'm sure it will be OK.

You're gonna like the Diria. :)

I have stayed at the Diria twice in high season January. I saw many older mongers hanging out with young tica guests by the pool and in the bars most day and nights. I never saw anyone pay much attention to them. I did give a few a thumbs up for their guest quality.

Very nice hotel, great beach and great location not far from the Tamarindo circle. You must visit Mambo Bar one night and watch the girls dance!
