I called yesterday to book a room on December 6, 7 and 8. That girl that answered the phone (and I could tell she was f*cking HOT..) said she had a room on the 6th but not the 7th & 8th. Question is, does it pay to ask them to put me on a waiting list in the event of any cancellations or are cancellations just a rare thing there? Thx.

Always. There are cancellations and changes almost everyday. But be sure to have a backup plan anyway.

It's really a personal thing, whether you feel comfortable enough with fate to provide lodging at the SL for the remaining two nights. If you decide to do that, be aware that you might arrive in San Jose and have to frantically search for another hotel the remaining two nights and hope that they allow you to bring ladies.

The same thing happened to me. I'm returning next year and booked a room at El Presidente. The room was available for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th nights, but I needed somewhere for the 4th and 6th nights. So I just booked them for the first three nights and scored a room at the SL for the remaining three. But that's not such a bad thing, because I'll get to stay in two great hotels.

So yeah, it's just whatever you're comfortable with. I personally don't like leaving decisions up to fate - I plan as much ahead of time as I can so I don't end up disappointed. Whatever you choose, I hope it works out for you.

Are the courtyard rooms really as bad as I read? Paper thin walls and full of noise?

On my first trip I stayed at Castillo and ZB. But I always found myself hanging out at SL. For my second trip I was able to get a room, but all they had available were the courtyard rooms. Has anyone had a pleasant time while staying at one of those rooms?

Thanks guys.

imo the courtyard rooms are only if nothing else exists. the noise can go on pretty late and start pretty early. and if they forget to put the phone on silent mode it rings all night. if you are sensitive to noise at all you will likely be miserable, at least in regards to sleep but hey did you come to CR for sleep?

........and move to Zona Blue. You will get the best of both worlds. Tehy are close and an easy cab ride when you change hotels.
