I'll be in San Jose for 1 night then moving on, its my first time. Where should I stay? Hotel Presidente or Hotel Castillo. Looking to be near the action, area to party and have fun?

I like the Castillo......great staff, extremely chica friendly, quiet, adequate breakfast, in room safes, nice rooms at a fair price and close to all the action. :) However, if you're only there for one night, the Del Rey might be your best option, if they have a room available.

Are cabs readily available in the Del Rey area in the evenings and night time?

Cabs are readily available at night near the Del Rey.....however, avoid the cabs parked alongside the Del Rey.....they're a RIPOFF. Instead, flag one down that's coming down the street. A ride to the Castillo from the Del Rey area should cost only about 500 colones [about one dollar].

Your first trip, only 1 night is a NO-BRAINER. You got no time to waste going back and forth from Castillo or Presidente.

Del Rey!

(If you can't do DR for any reason, Prez would be my next choice. Castillo is relatively too far.)

For anyone who knows me, this answer will be a bit strange...

If you're only going to be there for one night, AND it's your first night, then Del Rey... It is the best option. There is nowhere else for 1 night only, IF you want to monger.

If possible, try to get a room on the 4th floor or higher, due to the noise level in the casino. If you're a sound sleeper, then it doesn't matter, as long as there's a bed and a shower!

Del Rey is the place to be if you can get a room. Since you are only there for one night think the Morazan is your best second choice.

As previously posted do take one of the cabs parked at the curb by the HDR. Come out the side door, turn left, walk 1/4 of a block east to the Colonial Casino and hail a passing cab. Make sure it is a legitimate cab (red with a yellow triangle on the door) that he has a meter and turns it on when you get in the cab. If he has no meter or says it is broken get out and hail the next cab.

Thanks for the advice. Gonna keep my reservation at Hotel Castillo. Gonna hit up the nearby massage parlors during the day then head over to the Del Rey and pick up a chica for the night.

Good idea......There's a lot of GOOD reasons for staying at the CASTILLO. I think you'll like it. :)

I've booked a couple nights at the DR for my first visit but then have to move as they're booked for the next five nights I'll be there. I chose the Morazan...I know there's a lot of opinions about hotels but would like to hear yours.
