I received email from a tica I met with the word teextrano, I can't find a translation for this word. Could anyone help.

I translate the item as, "I banish you." The verb "extranar" can mean "to wonder at" or "to banish," but "extranarse" can mean "to marvel" or "to be astonished." It depends upon the context.

Let us see what the others say.

In this context it definately means "I miss you." And, probably your wallet also. :lol:

No, I am dead serious. That's what I got, which is why I told the guy to "see what the others say." It must not be Costa Rican Spanish. :)

Thanks. I guess that I will have to rid myself of my Spanish dictionary from the University of Chicago. :) It certainly makes sense.

To be fair, there are a lot of idioms, phrases, and diminutives that don’t show up in Spanish dictionaries, and the only way to learn them is through conversation. Way back when I was learning Spanish, I received a letter from a girl that said “yo tambien te extrano”. When I ran it through an electronic translator it said “I also am strange”. I was scratching my head trying to figure out what that meant.

Don’t give up on the dictionary yet, just understand that there are a lot of phrases that don’t make sense in English when you look them up word by word.

Thanks, Brother, I appreciate that and agree with you totally. I was trying to help the guy who asked the question. When I looked it up, the literal translation did not feel right to me. I learn stuff everyday on this board, and truly appreciate it.
