In our country the prostitute is considered the scum of the earth. No matter what the girl's situation in life she is just plain wrong and should be shoved off of the face of the earth. That seems to be the attitude that the typical sheltered, spoiled , ignorant American has about prostitutes. In a place like CR it's a bit different. No , people don't want their daughters to be putas .. they want them to be Doctors. But every person in the country has a friend , relative or acquaintance that has taken money for sex. Most Americans I know only hear about prostitutes on tv or read about an police sting (usually entrapment) in the paper. It's easy to be harsh & judgemental for them because it dosen't hit remotely close to home. Plus , it's illegal in the states and that makes it wrong everywhere to these morons.

Costa Rica have way more in common mentally with whores in the U.S. or Europe than with the average non-pro Tica working a regular job. Ironiclly, the ONLY girls I have ever met that were able to almost completely shake that whore mentality were the one's who started whoring because they were drug addicts. If they stop whoring AND drugs, they have a better chance of convincing themselves that the drugs made them do it, and are less inclined to go back selling their ass once they get clean and sober.

I could not disagree more. I think that your statement is true of some, certainly the one that is featured character in this post, but most that I have met here just look at it as a job. Many of these women still live with their families. Most are doing what they have to do to raise their Ch*ldren. Many of them are really nice and cool chicks.

Certainly what you say is true about many. But the whole mentality around the industry is completely different than in the US and to a lesser extent Europe and you cannot over generalize. There just isn't the same social stigma against here as you find elsewhere and as such in the minds of many punta here it is just what they do for work.

The vast majority of these women are in fact not interested in having Gringo novios to take advantage of. They just want to provide their hour of service and that is the end of it.

When I refer to American hookers, I'm not talking about those street walkers you see outside. I'm refering to the girls who work as ******* or perhaps hook on the side while stripping. These girls, in many cases, are just trying to provide a better life for themselves and their Ch*ldren.

Having worked with these ladies and had several as friends, I suspect your impression of American girls who sell their bodies is a bit distorted. I have met several intelligent, caring, single moms and students, who just happen to ocasionally Phuck men for money. It is a job for them. A means of getting what they want. If anything, they seem LESS likely to try to exploit some guy for his money.

I certainly didn't want to imply that most of the Del Ray girls would do something like druging their gringo boyfriends. However, lets be honest here. Take an average Del Ray girl who is now being taken care of by a gringo. Lets say her son needs something for school (A computer, some books, a new set of uniforms, etc). For whatever reason, her gringo boyfriend doesn't buy it. Now she hears from her best friend, who still works at the Del Ray, that Rob, the nice American she met last summer who always paid cien, was in town and asking about her. What percentage of these girls would set up at least one fling with Rob behind their gringo boyfriend's back if it meant getting something that their son "needed"? If your number is less than 90%, maybe there is some other room at the Del Ray that all of these girls are hiding in, because I have never found it.

This doesn't mean these girls are not nice people. They are simply looking out for their best interest. I certainly wouldn't expect any girl to chose loyalty to some suposidly former monger over the well being of her Ch*ldren. Especially when that same monger is still probably banging girls on the side, and may drop her when she gets too old or he gets too bored.

We all see these struggling Ticas and apply our values and standard of living on them. We see how they live and say "of course she is doing this, who wouldn't if they were this poor." Keep in mind that these girls are doing this because they are unable to live on the same amount of money that the majority of the country live with. They are unwilling to work 60 hours a week for $200 per month, even though the rest of the country can do just that.

Yeah , but alot of those people who work 60 hours a week for $200 a month rely on the working girls to pay for everything that the $200 dosen't cover. Thousands of girls doing this full or part-time and very few of them that are not helping family and/or boyfriend

Excellent point. I've always found a woman's gratitude and satisfaction are temporary things at best. They will always want MORE.

Great post Bilko!

I don't want to start a pissing match but I think some of us don't understand human nature and believe all American girls to be bad, most Latin girls to be good. It's not one or the other, women just are what they are- people.

That is a fair point, but it really isn't about what individual women are like, whether they be gringa or tica.

What we are talking about are the differences between to completely different cultures. The Costa Rican culture produces a different kind of women (to say the phucking LEAST!!!!!) and it is fair to make comparisons.

I think we are more in agreement than it appears. My point was not that Latinas are greedy, but rather that you should not ASSUME that a life of poverty makes for grattitude when the girl sees the bright lights, big city. Some Latinas CAN be grateful for a modest lifestyle while others can't be satisfied as long as somebody else has more. Kind of like humans everywhere, eh?

Of course, there are some families that rely on the money their daughter/mother/wife/girlfriend makes prostituting herself, but in no way is that the majority of poorer families in Costa Rica. No matter how accepted it "seems" the majority of families would be absolutely appalled that their daughter/mother/wife/girlfriend was a prostitute. Most families would not just accept it, they wouldn't tolorate it at all. While a higher percentage may be more accepting in Costa Rica than in the U.S., in no way is it the majority.

Think about it this way. Where I grew up, by the time you were about 14 EVERYONE knew someone who was a drug dealer. EVERYONE. However, for the majority of K*ds in that area, if their parents found out they were dealing drugs they would beat the hell out of the K*ds. Now, were there a higher instance of drug dealers where I grew up than on average, probably. However, the vast majority of families still did not tolerate that type of behavior.

As far as hookers supporting other people with there money. This is true basically everywhere amongst prostitutes. It is actually strange to see a hooker in the U.S. who doesn't have either a K*D or a boyfriend/husband who is getting a cut of her earnings. It is not so much a mother or father getting the money, but I think that has more to do with Americans being less likely to take care of their parents than Latinos.

I knew a stripper who dabled in giving private shows at hotels (i.e. escorting). Guess who went to jobs with her to "protect" her. guess who took the money to "manage" it for her. And guess who was eager to find out how to get her into doing porn scenes, even though she hated it. Why it was her loving caring husband. The same guy who just couldn't seem to hold down a job. (other than pimping out his wife). Other husbands/boyfriends aren't so blatent about it, but they know what is going on, even if they wont admit it. How else do they explain the fact that their girlfriend, who droped out of high school, is bringing in 2 grand a week. Did Mindy suddenly land a job as an investment banker?

I guess I harp on this because everytime I talk with these Ticas and they tell me their life story, it is the exact same as poor young girngas who got into the business (except in espanol :) ). The same with girls from Europe. It is like people keep remaking the same movie with the same script, they just change the location and the language.

I just don't think that is true at all. I think that there is a "Don't ask, don't tell" attitude among families. Most turn a blind eye.

People aren't stupid. If your daughter is working every night and she is bringing in enough money to help out the entire family what else would she be doing? Families here are VERY close, it is not like in the states where everyone is out doing their own thing. It is not like a young woman can be out every night and the family is not going to notice. In most cases the Mom is baby sitting. In fact, a VERY high percentage of these girls live with their families. It is traditional that women stay with their families until marriage. For those that are living independantly, what do you think the families think? If you are an independant young woman without a professional job in this country, you are a punta, pure and simple. People aren't stupid.

People really struggle to make ends meet. Many families depend on the extra money to just get by. This has been going on for a long time and it is not like in the States where it is a very small segment of the population. Besides the full timers, there are a very high percentage of women that do this on a part time basis when the family is in a crunch. This has been going on a long, long time and it is engrained in the culture.

Beyond that, people just are not as hung up on sex here and there is not the same social stigma against it that there is in the US. It is really not that big a deal here. If you think about it, there have always been a lot of prostitutes here. The previous generation didn't just evaporate.

In fact, I have one friend here that has been coming here for a long, long time. He was invited to dinner once by one of his old puntas that had started a family. To make a long story short, she basicly pimped her 18 year old daughter out to him. They "dated" for over a year.

I've had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I was in Amsterdam for a week, and had been banging this big titty Dominicana MILF who worked as a window girl (I found the older ones give the biggest discounts :D ). We get to talking, and I tell her I am going to the Dominican Republic next month, she gives me her daughter's phone number, address, and email. She tells me I should call her and that I would like her because she had big tits like her mother. She was right, I did like the daughter :D :D .

My point is that in both the case you described and the case I described, the women were puntas to begin with. This wasn't some farmer telling me to go Phuck hiis daughter because she had big tits. This was a woman working as a prostitute in Amsterdam. Now might that farmer introduce me to his daughter because I am a "rich" American who may marry her and take care of the whole family. Sure. But I think it is a little less likely that he would encourage me to Phuck her, in the hopes that I leave $40 on on her bed after I'm finished.

It is easy to get a distorted view of these people when we are surrounded either by prostitutes or people who make their living off of gringo tourists. Anyone who has worked in hotels or bars or resturants that caters to gringos has to be desensitized to the whole prostitution thing by now.

Now perhaps you are right about Tico culture and I am wrong. For me it is a win win. Either I am right about this OR the majority of poor women in this country would not only be willing to sell me their ass, but would also sell their (18 or older) daughter's ass to me as well. If that is actually true, I only have one other question for you guys.....

Can you recomend a good real estate agent for a Condo purchase down there   :D .

I know from experience that family members turn a blind eye to it. The chica tells her mother that she has a nice , generous, American boyfriend. That is exactly what mom wants to be told and no further questions are asked.

Good points kcosta, except you guys have left out one very important thing, prostitution is generally accepted by looking the other way in the lower class and not in your upper class educated escazu tico family. THEY WOULD FROWN ON IT.
However when the daughter puts food on the moms table for the 5 K*ds that live in the house with little to no food, the Mom is not going to judge or say a word to the daughter. And the daughter that helps out her mom in this way feels an immense amount of pride in providing food for the first few times. And soon, next it becomes a duty. And then the viscous cycle continues and so on and on.

Then on the other side of the tracks you have your university putas from a professional educated family who hook once in a while to buy their boyfriend the new puma track suit. If their family knew they were at BM they would be chastised a bit.

Or for that matter, putting sleeping pills in your boy friends drink to go hook for money so that you can go get your nails done.

Just think about that for a minute. That is deep.
