Delta has many fall fares to Central America and the Caribbean on sale if you book by September 12. I just booked a round trip, DCA-SJO, in October for $263 including taxes. Deals are a little better for hub airport departures. For perspective, the best I could find for a similar itinerary last year was nearly $500.

Checking October, November and late January out of Atlanta I find no sale.
I also noted some fairly full flights for January and February at this early date.
