Restaurant review:

I've done a hotel review and a girl review so why not a restaurant review. This is for a trip I made this August. Staying at the Hotel Del Rey I'll start with their restaurant across the street The Del Mar.
I am not a food critic and am not terribly picky about what I eat. I find their hamburger to be one of the better ones in San Jose. They also serve an open faced roast beef sandwich that I enjoy. I can also recommend their Del Rey Chicken. Their breakfast I mentioned in a previous post. They're not the cheapest place in town but convenient and the service is excellent.

At eight o'clock in the evening Key Largo has a buffet You get a choice of two or three main courses that are supplemented by Rice, beans, coleslaw and chips. It is quick, good and reasonably priced. If my memory serves me correctly it's 2500 colonies.

Soto Peru: (very good chance I'm misspelling that) is a small Peruvian restaurant across the street from ZB and to the left. Excellent food served in a charming local environment. Menus in English. They serve a seafood soup that alone is worth a trip there.

Hamburger factory: didn't try the hamburgers or the chicken but the ribs are worth the trip. Facilities are limited but what you get for your money is remarkable. For a few dollars you get a pile of ribs that are cooked right in front of you while you wait. Location: step out of the president onto Avenue Central make a right down the avenue two or three doors down once you cross the street.

The unnamed fried chicken place: I'm sure if he knew about it Colonel Sanders would eat their. Excellent fried chicken ridiculously cheap. No English spoken no English menu no North Americans to be seen. I would give you the location and name but I'm sure I'd be put on the hit list if I did. The only thing I'll say is that it is in walking distance of the president and you only had to cross one street. Other than that you're on your own but if you find it it's worth it.

SODA PERU....not "Soto Peru," and yes, it is excellent. :)

I too enjoy the ribs at Hamburguesa Factory....tasty and a good value for the money. The hamburgers there are good as well, however, the trick is to tell them to NOT put that sweet ketchup on your burger, instead, request the barbecue sauce. :)

Rosti Pollo is two or three blocks up Avenue Central from the president and on the right. The member who brought me to the chicken place ( that will remain unnamed ) made me promise not to tell anyone where it was. He's afraid to many English-speaking customers will ruin the place.

Rosti Pollo is a chain with restaurants scattered around. The closet one to the gulch is on calle 5 (one block west of the Presidente) between avenida central (the pedestrian street) and avenida 1.
