For those of you who are in town, you might want to be aware that Mothers Day is today. Wishing a chica a "Happy Mothers day" (assuming you know she is a mother) might go a long way in the negotiating tactics. Those of you with the regular RFMs might want to send a little extra for this week. Just remember "Mother is only half a word"

OK so Mothers Day was celebrated on the 15th of August. Now I am told that it will be celebrated 2 MORE TIMES. (Monday and Wednesday) I don't want to sound like a stick-in-the-mud BUT 3 days is a bit much.

At least for this year and hopefully by next year the legislators will have passed the law that restores the holiday to August 15 and only August 15.

I was on the phone with Steph last Tuesday night at around 6PM Tico time setting up a couple of dates and I could hear her son Lucas in the background. She told me she wasn't working that night because it was el Dia de las Madres.

So, apparently this celebration must have evolved into a three day holiday for them...  :)

That is one area where Costa Rica emulates the United States. Fathers day is a minor glitch on the radar screen compared to Mothers day.

There is but one Fathers day which is ironic considering that many Costa Rican families are composed of two, three, four or more Ch*ldren from one mother but numerous fathers

Mother's Day Back on August 15th
Inside Costa Rica
Legislative deputies yesterday approved in second debate the reforms to the law that will move Mother's Day back to its original day, August 15th, beginning in 2008. The change to celebrate Mother's Day on the following Monday if it fell during the week met with strong resistance during the past two years when the previous government made the move.

The change in 2005 also affected the holidays of 11 April, 25 July and 12 October. So, for 2008, all the holidays will be celebrated on the day the fall and not the following Monday.
