Guys, I haven't been to this place, but subscribe to Escazu News. Anyway, here is a "review" for your information:

Time Out Tavern & Deli & Sports Bar

San Rafael de Escazu â€" on Country Club Road (off Calle Vieja) - 300 meters South of the Costa Rica Country Club on the Left hand side - The sign isn't up yet so look for the tan doors with the black columns and swinging saloon doors in between two dental clinics amd acrpss from Magia Verde Vivera (DodgingPotholes@yahoo.com <mailto:DodgingPotholes%40yahoo.com> / www.TheSandwichGuys.com / 289-3217)

This bar/tavern/SPORTS BAR is also a place (serving till 1 A.M.!!!) with the BIGGEST selection of HUGE SANDWICHES I’ve EVER seen (you can see samples of their Sandwich menu from their previous sandwich shops website)!! Here’s a tiny sample of the sandwiches they offer: #1 Rocky Marciano - This is sure to knock out your hunger - Chicken Breast pan fried and topped with Provolone Cheese and Red Sauce served on a Fresh Italian Roll (our famous Chicken Pam). #2 Dallas Cowboy - This must be the love it or hate it sándwich - Chicken Breast pan fried and topped with BBQ Sauce, Sliced Ham, and Pepper Jack Cheese served on a Fresh Italian Roll. They have many of Standard sándwich fare with FUN names!! 3,500 gets you an even BIGGER sandwich: #3 El Duque - You don't have to go to Cuba to get one of these famous sandwiches - Roasted Pork, Ham, dijon Mustard & Swiss Cheese on a French Roll pressed & baked. #6 The Hog - This sandwich can find a spot on the legendary offensive line of the 80's. Russ Grimm & Mark May move on over. Thin Sliced Virginia Ham, Roasted Pork, & Bacon piled on a Croissant topped with Swiss Cheese, Mayo, Lettuce & tomato.
#14 â€" the Fat Bastard - Head Sandwich Bastard - Smoked Turkey, Virginia Ham, Bacon, and Swiss Cheese with Lettuce, tomato & herbed mayo on a grilled croissant. EXCELLENT CHILI con Carne!!! SPORTS BAR with Satelite Dish & Amnet.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Thurs. 8pm - CR YOUNG EXPAT MEET UP where members receive 50% off appetizers, FREE DESSERT with sandwich or dinner entrée & 3 for 2 Drink Promos!!

HOURS: Bar - Daily 11am-2am. Food Served till 1 A.M. OWNERS: Hola to Steven & hi swife Jae!

Vicki (aka "The Sarong Goddess")

Perhaps one of you Escazu residents can pay it a visit to see if the write-up is accurate?
:?:

Check with LVSteve or Easy. I know they have tried it and were very satisfied.

I have not been yet, but the two gringo brothers that own it are great guys. Many of you know Big Steve who was a regular at the Horshoe poker game. They had been doing a booming catering/delivery business. I wish them well and will try it this week.

Yes, big Steve and his bro really have created something nice there.
Tried it for dinner and lunch. Since it's mostly sandwiches, it's really best for lunch. the sandwiches are huge. Had a Tony Soprano (Meatball Hero) and was impressed by the Chicago type taste. Very good service. Mucho Gringos here. If you are looking for a local type Tico place, forget it. If you want a taste of the old neighborhood bar from NY or Chi town, this is it. Not too expensive.
to get there, go thru the gringo section of Escazu and turn right at the Scotia Bank keep going to the Country Club, turn left, go past the main entrance of the Country Club, then its 300 meters on the left.
LVSteve

I second this. The Timeout Tavern is excellent food, at an excellent price. The owners are friendly people, and the staff speak either pretty good english or passable english to get things ordered.

Their sandwhiches are great. The Chilli is excellent. It's small, only about 8 or 10 tables, and a typical u-shaped bar. Lunchtime is really busy there, so it's best to go later in the afternoon or early evening... though they may be out of the specials of the day by then.

It's out of the way, especially if you're downtown... but you can't beat the value and the quality.

I just ate there and it was fantastic. Big sanwiches good soup and a nice bar. Good stero system playing sixties rock and TVs for sports. Steve and Glen the owners are great guys. The price was very reasonable given the portions.

Directions 300 meters past the Country Club of Costa Rico on the left. No sign yet but it is the first restaurnt looking building you come to.

I have been meaning to try this new place for some time now.Well, last night two friends and I stopped in about 7pm for dinner. I have known Steve for a couple of years now and I am happy to see that he is doing a great business at both the bar and the restaurant.

The food is fantastic nd very reasonable. As advised by LV Steve, the fish and chips served on Fridays only were really good. The sandwiches are,as reported, huge and great. Another reason to get out of the Gultch.

For those of you who live in Escazu,Steve informed me that they have started up their delivery sevice once again. (from 11:30am to 6pm for delivery) Phone number...289-3217

Thanks for the info on delivery VB.

K and I are thursday regulars now. This week I had a great Cuban sandwich, with very good yellow potato salad and K had the biggest Cobb salad with a whole avocado, big wedge of good blue cheese and grilled chicken. I had 7 rum and cokes and K had two for one ladies night big pink drinks of some sort. Total bill with tip and tax $26.

BTW when the Gardens first reopened Fabian (Tico who lived in US for many yeears) was the Chef. He is at TOT now and hos specials are very good.

I tried their delivery yesterday while I stayed home and watched football. The food was fresh and hot and delivered as promised within about 45 minutes. Their delivery charge is a VERY MODEST 500 colones. You can't beat that.

They should charge you double for having to go up that mountain-side of a driveway. :D
