In Feb, I complemented the new ownership of the Gardens Rest. on the improvements they had made & how good the food had been. Now I must take those compliments back.

On my last trip a few weeks ago Myself , Phoenix Rising, MN2, and his wingman went there for dinner , on my recommendation. It was nothing short of horrible. The seafood soup which I had praised, was inedible, the seafood had the texture of rubber and had clearly been cooked for many hours and had sat in warm water untill it was added to a bowl of lukewarm watery milk & served. That was the highlight of the meal.

To cut them maybe a little slack, Tom was out of the country, but the quality of food should not suffer like that.I was sick the next day and the only thing I could trace it back to was the dinner there

Be forwarned & careful. When I mentioned the food quality to our server, all we got was a shrug  I really don't know if I could give them another try. :?:

When I stayed at the CAstillo a few weeks ago, the restaurant next door ( the gardens of which you speak) was always dead. That is never a good sign. I didnt hazard a meal there even though it would have been convenient.

When I was at Castillo last March and April, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was at the new Gardens Restaurant. We ate there a half-dozen times. I thought he pork dishes were especially good, and my companion enjoyed the chicken. We also had cheeseburgers sent to our room a couple of times, and they were good. It was a vast improvement over Sonny’s Sport Bar & Restaurant, and their business seemed to be doing well.

Hopefully, the quality will return when Tom comes back. I’ll be at Castillo for 12 days starting next week , and will definitely check it out and report back.

I hope it has not gone down the drain, I ate there many times during my trip in May and enjoyed every meal. I was looking forword to going back again during my trip in November. I always stay at the Castillo, so it is very nice to have a good place to eat so close. I even had lunch there on several occasions. The lunch special was excellent, and a lot of ticos from the ISN ate lunch there. There was not a lot of traffic for the bar in May, although I did enjoy the back bar and did meet a couple nice chica's there. I will be waiting on your report DG on your upcomming trip.

Boudmon, I hope that your bad meal there was simply a bad aberation. I stay at Castillo and would love it if the Gardens could develop consistent quality. The location is perfect, but it does need to be consistent.

When I was there in March, the food was great. They had a chef (not a cook) from Conneticut who used to work in the steak houses there. The steaks and chicken were as good as I've had in Chicago. Unfortunately, so few people ate dinner there (although it was packed during lunch) that I wondered how long it could last. Is that chef still there?

It seems dark and quiet. I never ate at the Gardens eventhough I stayed at Castillo.

I had their Mexican food several times on my last visit and I have to say I thought it was good. It tasted like Mex.

Hey I was not paid or given any thing for posting what I found about the The Gardens . Maybe some of you never had good food or you maybe drink too much and couldn't tell good food from bad chicas's !LOL
But things are being changed daily at the gardens and it is improving for a small cafe& bar restaurant. Theres some new bar staff just hired and I noticed there some changes we all over look . Come on lets give the Gardens chance as their doing thier best and trying to make it a place we would be proud to bring our friends or even that hot lady out to for a romantic cosy dinner. And I know the owners will do what it takes to make this a great little romantic place for all.

The food was just as good to me as some of the restaurants other people rave about. I'll eat there again and if it sucks I'll say so.
